Southampton vs Crystal Palace
A late equaliser made it 10 games in a row on the road unbeaten for Crystal Palace as they drew 1-1 with Southampton. The hosts will feel they should have come away with all three points after Onuachu gave them the lead in the first half before an added-time goal by Franca shared the points and could spell the end of the Saints Premier League status. Southampton took the lead in the 20th minute of the match, which lacked much in the way of action, through Onuachu. He was on the end of a Fernandes cross, directing the ball to the left of Henderson in goal; his header was too powerful, and the ball was palmed into the corner of the net. Crystal Palace almost equalised in the 36th minute as Mateta swivelled and shot in the penalty area but for a fine reaction from Ramsdale to deny him and ensure the hosts led at the break. Things continued as they did in the second half, with Crystal Palace controlling possession, managing 56.8% throughout the match, but failing to create much. Ramsdale was called into action in the 73rd minute as he charged down a potential chance for Nketiah after he latched onto a poor back pass by Bednarek. The ball would bounce wide as Ramsdale denied him. As Southampton closed in on their third win of the season, Franca broke their hearts. Scoring his first goal of the season, he made it 1-1 in the 92nd minute as he guided his header past Ramsdale at the near post from a Lerma cross. Crystal Palace may believe a draw is a fair result, as they created an xG of 0.88 from their nine efforts, three on target. This was better than Southampton’s xG of 0.51 from their eight efforts, two on target. That would be ignoring the lack of creativity of Palace and the endeavour of the hosts. The result will have been the final nail in the coffin for the Saints as their fate is out of their hands; a Wolves victory at the weekend and they will be relegated. They will now face Tottenham Hotspur at the weekend, while Palace will host rivals Brighton.

Just as Eze thought he was about to strike towards goal from the penalty spot and potentially equalise the referee blows his whistle to indicate a foul by Nketiah for pulling a Southampton player denying him the chance from clearing.
