The race for the Champions League places should also be a compelling battle, with a fifth place possible for English teams. Manchester United’s latest rebuild under Ruben Amorim sets expectations high once more after a dismal season last time out.

Meanwhile, it’s Burnley, Leeds United and Sunderland who made it back to the elite after promotion last year and each will have hope they can make it more than a one-year stay. Follow the latest live action from the Premier League below:

The full-time whistle goes at the Stadium of Light, with Sunderland beating Wolves 2-0. Before they took the lead, Isidor had a goal disallowed for offside, cancelling out a fantastic finish from a tight angle. They took the lead in the 16th minute, with Mukiele and Hume playing a one-two and the Frenchman beating Johnstone in goal. Hume could have doubled the hosts lead in the first half; however his diving header hit the post from just yards out. Joao Gomes and Tchatchoua both had chances for Wolves; however their finishing was what let them down in the moment. Sunderland wrapped up the game deep into added time, with Krejci diverting Talbi’s pass into his own net. The away side had double the shots to Sunderland, with 16, but it was in the crucial moments in front of goal where they crumbled. Even with less efforts, Sunderland looked to be the team more likely to score. Sunderland ended the game with 0.75xG, accumulating just 0.04xg in the second 45 (only one shot). Wolves had an xG of 0.78, with 0.68xG after half-time. Wolves’ woes in front of goal continue, only scoring in half of their games this season (second lowest in league). On the flip side, Sunderland have now kept clean sheets in half of their games (only behind Newcastle and Arsenal). Wolves remain rock-bottom; they host Burnley next time out. Sunderland climb up to seventh in the league, facing Chelsea, who sit above them in sixth, next. Thank you all for tuning in to today’s commentary of the game. Have a great day and goodbye!
