Liverpool are set to rival Manchester United with a summer approach for PSV forward Memphis Depay.

Yesterday PSV confirmed reports that United had made an enquiry for the Holland international, but now Liverpool have also entered the race for the £25m rated 21-year-old, according to the Daily Mail.

"We have had a telephone call from them [United] about him," PSV's technical director Marcel Brands had said on Dutch television.

"But no talks have been held yet. There are several top clubs who have expressed an interest."

The report in the Mail claims that Liverpool hope to convince Depay that he would get more regular football with them.

French giants Paris Saint-Germain are also interested.

Depay has a good relationship with United manager Louis van Gaal, the pair know each other from time from the Dutch national team. Van Gaal gave Depay his debut at international level.

United spent over £160m in transfers last summer, bringing in Ander Herrera, Luke Shaw, Marcos Rojo, Daley Blind, Angel Di Maria, plus Rademel Falcao on loan.
