Memphis Depay to Manchester United: Striker 'arrives in England' for talks over £25m switch
United understood to be leading chase for the Netherlands international
Memphis Depay has reportedly arrived in England to hold talks with Manchester United over a possible £25m transfer.
The Netherlands international is expected to leave his current club PSV Eindhoven this summer, with the club confirming last weekend that he will probably be sold.
PSV's technical director Marcel Brands went further, confirming Manchester United had made contact over the 21-year-old. "We have had a telephone call from them about him," he said.
Their efforts to sign the striker appear to have stepped up, with claims Depay flew into England with his agent Kees Ploegsma to discuss terms at Old Trafford.
Depay, who played in last year's World Cup in Brazil, was one of the leading figures in PSV's championship success and scored in the 4-1 home win over Heerenveen last Saturday that secured the Dutch title for the first time in seven seasons. He's scored 20 league goals in all this season.
Whilst a host of clubs are keen on signing the striker, including PSG and Liverpool, Manchester United hope that the presence of Louis van Gaal will sway the transfer in their favour, with the Dutch manager forging a close relationship with Depay during his time as coach of the Netherlands.
