January transfer window 2019: Premier League transfer round-up

The Premier League's January transfer window is upon us with Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea all set to be busy.

Liverpool were the summer's biggest spenders with no fewer than four new arrivals. Goalkeeper Alisson was the headline-grabber with the Brazilian already proving worth every penny of the world-record fee the Reds shelled out for the Brazilian. Could long-term target Nabil Fekir join him next month? United got a couple of new faces in through the door in the summer but it hasn't made a difference with Jose Mourinho out and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in. Will he spend them out of trouble in the January sales?

Chelsea have made the biggest splash with the signing of Borussia Dortmund's Christian Pulisic while Manchester City, Tottenham and Arsenal could all choose to dip their toes in the water as they battle for an all-important top four spot. We will have all the latest news, views, rumours, gossip and done deals right here so don't touch that dial.

↵We begin at Chelsea, where the bad news of last night's 1-0 defeat against Spurs has been multiplied by the latest offer arriving from Bayern Munich in their pursuit of young talent Callum Hudson-Odoi.

The teenager was Chelsea's bright spark in the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg defeat as he was handed a rare start by Maurizio Sarri, but the performance came shortly after a fresh £35m offer arrived from Bayern - with Hudson-Odoi himself giving serious consideration to a move to Germany.

It's been reported that if Chelsea decide to cash in on the winger, they will try to keep him until the end of the season, but Bayern's offer is likely to decrease significantly if so given he will be in the final 12 months of his contract.

Chelsea do still remain hopeful of keeping him, but with such big money on the table for someone who has played just 42 minutes of Premier League football, there is a temptation to sell-up.

The Daily Mail says reports in Spain suggest the 31-year-old striker has accepted an offer to join on loan, with AC Milan willing to let him end his temporary stay from Juventus after just eight months.

Players to watch

Mauro Icardi: Chelsea are continuing to keep track of the Inter Milan striker, the Daily Mirror reports. Blues owner Roman Abramovich is said to be taking a vested interest in a possible £100million move for the Argentine.

Yacine Brahimi: Everton are reportedly monitoring the 28-year-old Algeria international, who is set to be out of contract at Porto at the end of the season. The Daily Mirror reports that Everton sent a scout to watch the forward in action during his club's 3-1 victory over Nacional on Monday.

Real Madrid have made initial steps to prise Christian Eriksen this summer, and are preparing what they hope will be a £100m deal.

The struggling European champions are planning a necessary overhaul of their squad this summer, and want one of Eriksen or Chelsea’s Eden Hazard to be their new playmaker, but the Dane is seen as more gettable.

While the contracts of both are up in 2020, Spurs’ way of doing business means they are seen by Madrid as likelier to sell for a fee in the last year.

Barcelona had previously been hugely interested in Eriksen, and saw him as an alternative to Philippe Coutinho before they signed the Brazilian a year ago, but do not now plan any move.

But the latest development has seen Spurs slap a huge £225m price tag on Eriksen, according to Spanish newspaper AS, which could warn off Madrid from making any offer.

Diego Godin appears unlikely to sign a new contract with Atletico Madrid.

Godin's current deal expires in the summer with the chances of the 32-year-old renewing his stay now slim.

The Uruguayan was the subject of eleventh-hour interest from Manchester United on the final day of the summer transfer window, though their advances failed.

And Tuttomercato in Italy report that they have renewed their interest this month.
