This year sees Manchester City try to defend their crown and claim a historic fourth title in succession. Pep Guardiola’s all-conquering City, who also won the Champions League and FA Cup last season, will have to see off Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool and the rest to claim an unprecedented sixth league title in seven years.
Meanwhile Luton Town are making their first appearance in the Premier League, having risen from non-league in an incredible decade of progress. They followed Championship winners Burnley and second-placed Sheffield United in earning promotion to the top flight.

Ward-Prowse is over a free-kick on the right, and he whips a cross into the box towards the back post. However, he puts too much pace on it, with Soucek unable to keep the attack alive.

WIDE! West Ham are having all the chances at the moment. Paqueta uses his trickery to roll past Bentancur on the edge of the box before curling a left-footed effort just wide of the left post. It feels like the Hammers are getting closer and closer to taking the lead.

OFFSIDE! Bowen puts another delightful corner into the box on the right, with the winger whipping a cross into a dangerous area. Mavropanos sends a downward header on target, but Vicario blocks it on the line before the flag goes up for offside against Antonio. He was blocking the goalkeeper.

SAVE! Good stop from Vicario to keep the score level! Ward-Prowse makes the most of a loose pass from Bentancur on the edge of Spurs' box and offloads the ball to Antonio. He gets a shot away on his left foot, but his curling effort is pushed away by Vicario.

Bowen tries to get past Udogie on the right, but the Spurs defender gets ahead of the winger before getting tripped. Bowen throws his hands into the air and is furious, but it was a foul.

West Ham get the ball rolling again. They are unbeaten in their last six Premier League matches, winning four (drawing two) when level at the break.

West Ham narrowly edged the first half, creating an xG (expected goals) of 0.61 from their five shots. Bowen and Kudus has constantly caused problems down the wings with their pace and trickery, but Paqueta has had a quiet half by his standards, completely just 80 per cent of his passes and giving away three fouls. As for Spurs, they were excellent until they conceded. Porro and Udogie have supported their attacks brilliantly, constantly causing problems with their overlapping runs. Bentancur has also been strong in the midfield and has had 66 touches, but there has been some frustration from Maddison, who has constantly dropped deep to collect possession and ended the half on the wrong side of a heavy tackle from Paqueta.

Zouma’s header cancelled out Johnson’s opener to send West Ham and Tottenham into half-time with the score level at 1-1. Bowen had a chance to score inside five minutes, but he directed Kudus' cross wide of the left post. Instead, Spurs broke the deadlock. Werner made a fantastic run down the left and cut the ball across to Johnson, who had a simple finish from close range. Porro then struck his low shot wide of the left post before the Hammers equalised. Bowen's inswinging corner from the right found Zouma, who flicked his effort across the goal and into the net.
