Lyon star Ada Hegerberg is out for the remainder of the season at least after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

The Norwegian, who won the 2018 Ballon d’Or, picked up the injury in her right knee during training.

The 24-year-old has also won the Champions League four times in a row with the French club but she remained resolute despite the setback.

“So here it is. I ruptured my ACL this weekend. This is a setback for me,” Hegerberg said in a statement.

“But I’m going to work through this with all my heart and my energy. The best is yet to come. YOU’LL SEE ME SOON!”

Lyon are on course to face Arsenal in the semi-finals this year, with Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain standing between them respectively.

Hegerberg is the highest scorer in the competition’s history and added nine goals to her tally this season, but a return date will not be known until after the operation.

A statement from OL read: “The operating date will be defined in the coming days and the unavailability will be consistent with the known statistics for this type of injury.

“Olympique Lyonnais will offer Ada the best surgical and post-operative rehabilitation conditions to regain the fullness of its means.”
