The candidates for the Women’s Super League Player of the Season have been revealed with players from Chelsea and Manchester City making up four of the six names shortlisted on Tuesday.

Leading WSL scorer Sam Kerr and England international Fran Kirby have been nominated for Chelsea while Chloe Kelly and US international Sam Mewis are the players included for City.

Australian Kerr has scored 18 goals for the league leaders in her first full season at the club, while Kirby has scored 14 goals and registered 10 assists for Emma Hayes’ side this campaign.

Arsenal’s Vivianne Miedema, who trails Kerr in the race for the golden boot with 17 goals, and Everton’s Izzy Christensen complete the shortlist.

The winner of the award will be decided by an online vote.

Chelsea boss Hayes leads the nominations for Manager of the Season, with her side two points clear of Manchester City in the title race with two games remaining this season.

City’s Gareth Taylor, Manchester United’s Casey Stoney, Brighton’s Hope Powell and Birmingham City’s Carla Ward have also been shortlisted for the award.

Ward’s side are 10th in the WSL table but their season has been marred by off-field complaints of poor working conditions a lack of support from the club’s board.
