Keely Hodgkinson wins Sports Personality of the Year

The Keely Klassic will go ahead on Saturday despite Keely Hodgkinson suffering a late injury to force the Olympic champion out of her attempt to take down the women’s indoor 800m world record on Saturday in Birmingham.

The Olympic 800m champion from Paris last year had hoped too better Jolanda Ceplak’s long-standing mark of 1m 55.82secs, set in 2002, with Hodgkinson’s personal bests over 800m include 1:54.61 outdoors and 1:57.18 indoors.

A rollercoaster 2024 saw the -year-old claim a fabulous gold in Paris as the red-hot favourite, with her success recognised by winning the BBC Sports Personality of 2024.

The event on Saturday is a World Athletics Indoor Tour Bronze meeting will go ahead though and includes Olympic 1,500m bronze medalist Georgia Hunter-Bell in the women’s 1,500m and Neil Gourley in the men’s 1,000m.

The Keely Klassic takes place on Saturday, 15 February in Birmingham, UK.
