Formula One: 1000 races in numbers

Lewis Hamilton took victory in the British Grand Prix for a record sixth time, moving him clear of Alain Prost and Jim Clark as the most successful driver at Silverstone, though it did not come without it's drama in a thrilling race.

Hamilton inherited the lead when the safety car was deployed due to a spin for Antonio Giovinazzi, with Valtteri Bottas already pitting where Hamilton had not. Behind them, a raging battle between Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc ended in favour of the Ferrari man, but only after Verstappen was taken out of third when battling with Sebastian Vettel - who received a 10-second penalty for the collision.

Verstappen was able to salvage fifth place behind his Red Bull teammate Pierre Gasly, while Vettel finished down in 15th. Re-live the action below.

The British Grand Prix takes place on Sunday 14 July at 2:10pm BST.

Chequered flag: An emphatic statement from Hamilton as he posts the fastest lap on the race on the final lap, despite having old hard tyres compared to Bottas's frsh softs. He's soaking up every second of the celebrations.

Chequered flag: Hamilton stops on the Hangar Straight to collect a Union Jack, waving is from the cockpit as he completes the slowest cooling down lap we've ever seen.

Lewis Hamilton:

"Honestly I'm a bit out of breath. I can't tell you how proud I am to be here today in front of my home crowd. There's so many British flags out there and every year I see it and you think you get used to it but it feels like the first time and I'm forever grateful to everyone out here I hope you enjoyed the day.

"Jeeez, I couldn't have done it without these guys, I couldn't have done it without the team and everyone at the factory and their family who support them with all the time they spend away, they work so hard in their jobs. There's nearly 2,000 people who make this possible and I'm just a chink in the chain and I'm super proud to be a part of this."

Valtteri Bottas:

"I don't know what to say, congrats to Lewis, he got a free stop and got past me there. Not really my day but the pace was good. There are positives for yesterday in qualifying as I was quickest on track. I'll keep fighting this season, it's not over yet."

Charles Leclerc:

"It's probably the race I enjoyed the most in my F1 career. It's great to finish third but today was very difficult. We were where we wanted to be in the first two stints, but the safety car meant we lost a couple of positions and I'm extremely proud of the battles we had on track.

"I think the last race was an eye opener for me showing me how far we can go and it's great for F1 to fight on the limit in that way and I'm happy that this race has gone that way."
