Ireland will top the world rankings ahead of the Rugby World Cup after a 19-10 win over Wales in Dublin.

It wasn't all good news though and they will sweat a possible knee injury for wing Keith Earls, amid a confidence-boosting victory where Rob Kearney, Tadhg Furlong and James Ryan all bagged tries.

Head coach Joe Schmidt and captain Rory Best will relinquish their roles after the World Cup, and both claimed the Aviva Stadium sign-off they so craved.

A clinical performance from Ireland, building on solid defence and grinding their way to a relatively comfortable victory.

Tries from Rob Kearney, Tadhg Furlong and James Ryan take them to a 19-10 win, and they'll begin the World Cup as the best team in the world. 

Wales never quite found their flow in the game, and though Hadleigh Parkes cut a wonderful line to give them a first-half lead, they never truly threatened afterwards. Three defeats in four for Warren Gatland's team after winning 14 in a row. Warm-up matches they may be, but that's hardly ideal preparation.

Neither Rhys Patchell nor Cian Healy re-emerged after departing for HIAs, but it appeared that neither side suffered any other serious injuries, which is a positive in and of itself.

Patchell's concussion history might have Wales sweating, but it appears both sides have escaped largely unscathed.
