The UK is leading the way for the most desired travel destinations of Brits, with Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament, and Stonehenge emerging near the top of a worldwide ‘bucket list’.

The Eiffel Tower topped the poll of 2,000 British adults as the destination travellers absolutely have to see. Built in 1889 by Gustave Eiffel, the tower provides panoramic views of Paris, and has long been famed for its romantic qualities.

The 277 mile-long Grand Canyon in North America received silver medal, with the three UK landmarks completing the top five.

Other celebrated sites made it into the top 30 list, including the Acropolis of Athens and Machu Picchu in Peru.

It wasn’t only man-made structures that appeared on the list. Nepal’s Mount Everest - the highest peak on the globe – and the Great Barrier Reef in Australia made a statement for natural wonders.

It was revealed that the average adult has seen ten of the landmarks on the list of 30. Still, 70 per cent of adults expressed concern that they had not seen enough of the world.

When asked about the landmarks, 44 per cent of adults confessed they were ‘completely bored’ with their lives, and 79 per cent said that they would spend a good amount of cash on expanding their life experience.

The poll was commissioned by British Airways as part of their ‘Inspire Us’ travel photography challenge.

Colm Lacy, British Airways’ commercial manager for Gatwick, said: “Not only does this list of landmarks remind us of how grand and impressive the world is, it can act as a reminder to live life to the full.
