Being situated on the artificial island of Palm Jumeirah, the mainland is a 15-minute drive away and the hotel is far from the heart of Dubai and its sightseeing spots, so you can feel a bit stranded. However, there are neighbouring leisure developments with restaurants and other facilities. The Atlantis Palm, with its Aquaventure Waterpark, is a four-minute drive from the hotel.

By plane: flights from London and Manchester to Dubai take 7 hours. The hotel is one hour's drive from the airport. Free private parking on-site. Book flights to Dubai.

This is a massive beachfront resort with banks of rooms looking out to the Gulf. There are big grey marble-clad lobby and lounge areas with crystal chandeliers and white walls and pillars, swish glass lifts to the six floors, and spacious restaurant areas, but with everything pristine, overall it lacks character.

There's a private beach, fitness centre, three temperature-controlled pools (one adults-only), a spa, water sports centre and tennis court, a concierge and a business centre, and there are six restaurants/bars. Further facilities include a limousine service, shuttle buses, a helipad and private yacht mooring. Service is extremely courteous and enthusiastic.
