THE NEIGHBOURHOOD

Situated in Ocean Village in Southampton, the hotel has been built out into the marina and so is surrounded by water on three sides. The area is still a little industrial and a multi-storey car park mars the view from the top-floor restaurant but a supermarket and several bars are within walking distance. A massive indoor play centre called InJoy is just a five-minute walk from the hotel. The cruise ship terminals are a five-minute drive away.

By car: Around 2 hours by car from London, 2 hours 30 minutes from Exeter or Birmingham. Limited parking available at the hotel.

By train: The journey from London takes around 1 hour 25 minutes, from Bristol around 1 hour 40 minutes, from Birmingham around 2 hours 40 minutes and Manchester around 4 hours. Southampton Central is 9 minutes away by taxi. Book trains to Southampton.

By plane: Southampton aiport is 4.7 miles away.

Service is faultless from a team of enthusiastic staff headed by a young and charismatic manager who is client-facing most of the time. FOOD AND DRINK

Downstairs the food in the Jetty restaurant is superb, with skilful modern British dishes such as cod topped with a crab and herb crust and a rare fillet of beef with braised ox cheek. Upstairs is the place for sunset cocktails and more affordable comfort food such as seafood burgers and sweet potato fries.

The Jetty: Fine dining, modern British cuisine, locally sourced seafood, award-winning chef. Open for lunch and dinner Monday-Thursday, all day Friday- Sunday. Tasting menu £65 per person, a la carte mains from £23.50.
