OUR REVIEW

THE NEIGHBOURHOOD

The hotel's name is misleading, as it is not located on or near Times Square, but about a 15-minute walk away. It's situated in a pretty rough and ready neighbourhood, between 8th and 9th Avenues, with the latter being rather more tranquil than the former. However, it's in the heart of the city, between the lively Hell's Kitchen and historic Garment District neighbourhoods. The Theater District, Fifth Avenue boutiques, Madison Square Garden, Macy Herald Square and Penn Station are all nearby.

By plane: flights to New York take 6 hours 50 mins from London and Edinburgh, and 7 hours 10 mins from Manchester. The hotel is a 30-minute taxi ride from JFK airport. Parking on-site costs $50 per day. Book flights to New York.

THE LOOK AND FEEL

The lobby and bar area is clean, bright and functional. There are some strong colours amongst the neutral tones, such as little turquoise booths, bar tables with bright yellow chairs and a conservatory/lounge with a big screen TV, bookcases with books and seating, and an outside terrace.

THE FACILITIES

Being a budget hotel, there isn't an extensive range of facilities. There's a bar, a self-service snack area and a restaurant menu that has dishes that can be ordered. There's a conservatory and outside terrace, as well as seating in the lobby/bar area. The hotel has a small 24-hour gym in the basement which has elliptical machines, free weights, treadmills, a yoga mat, a yoga ball and a stationary bicycle. There's also a small business centre with a computer and printer.

BED AND BATH

The rooms are neutrally decorated, typically with cream linen wallpaper, grey doors and curtains, a light wood-effect desk and shelving, a full-length mirror, large flatscreen TV and a Keurig coffee maker. There are hooks rather than a wardrobe and a sandstone-effect tiled shower room. Additionally, rooms include irons/ironing boards.

Room types: Cosy, Premium

Key amenities: ensuite bathroom with Apotheke toiletries, desk, TV, free Wi-Fi

FOOD AND DRINK

This hotel has a small bar in the lobby area but doesn't have a restaurant, although works in conjunction with a local restaurant to provide a sizeable menu including burgers, chicken wings, Greek salad and pan-seared salmon. Breakfast options include brioche French toast and fresh fruit with Greek yoghurt. There's also a self-service area for a few snacks and drinks.

Bar: breakfast, drinks and cocktails.

Grab-&-go market: snacks.
