OUR REVIEW

THE NEIGHBOURHOOD

Located in Iceland's Reykjanes Peninsula, which was granted UNESCO Global Geopark status in 2015, the landscape has an intriguing 'Mad Max' feel due to the volcanic vicinity. The geothermal phenomena include a medley of craters, mud pools, steam vents, hot springs and seemingly endless moss-covered lava fields. You can book a guided hike allowing you to get to grips with the stunning and unique Blue Lagoon's volcanic landscape more closely.

By plane: direct flights from London to Reykjavík take 3 hours. The hotel is a 20-minute drive from the airport. Free parking on-site. Book flights to Reykjavík.

THE LOOK AND FEEL

The design involves what nature has provided as much as possible, from the wine cellar inside a volcanic crater to black sand deepening the colour of the modern cement walls, to wooden and tiled flooring. The brilliant white reflections of the mineral-rich lagoon water pervade and brighten, giving guests magical views through floor-to-ceiling windows.

THE FACILITIES

All accommodation in the retreat includes access to the Icelandic afternoon tea in the impressive lobby looking out over the lagoon, as well as entry into the daily group yoga sessions. The intimate 'Lava Cove' can be booked for private dining, lounging or a swim and treatment inside your own private section of the lagoon.

The highlight is Moss restaurant, a fine dining bonanza where you can taste unusual local produce such as Icelandic wasabi with beef. An innovative vegan menu is also available. There's a spa restaurant serving lighter meals, such as salmon ceviche, miso soup and fresh salads. The wine cellar in a crater is a talking point.
