OVERVIEW

There's a lot to like about this budget-friendly choice bang in the city centre where high-Victorian industrial meets contemporary design. Bedrooms are unashamedly small but cunningly designed without sacrificing any essential comforts. Perfect if you want to sleep and go, although you may linger for a drink, quick pizza or basic breakfast.

OUR REVIEW

THE NEIGHBOURHOOD

It doesn't get any more central than this: just off George Square around the corner from Queen Street Station. You're perfectly placed for shopping, restaurants, bars, museums and galleries, while underground trains make it easy to get around the city and taxis are reasonable for exploration further afield. If it's the weekend, head off-piste to the famous Barras Market and buy a kilt, a kite or a bunch of bananas. There are good food and drink options nearby, too.

By plane: flights from London to Glasgow take 1 hour 15 minutes. The hotel is a 30-minute drive. Book flights to Glasgow.

By train: 4 hours 30 minutes from London and 3 hours from Manchester. The hotel is a 10-minute walk from Glasgow Central station. Book trains to Glasgow.

THE LOOK AND FEEL

There is an almost Japanese feel in the pleasingly simple use of space that works well without sacrificing comfort. Respect for the building's industrial past is evident, enhanced by the use of exposed brickwork, beams and distressed tile for a relaxed metro/retro/chic feel - making it a great choice for those that appreciate good design.

THE FACILITIES

At these prices, you wouldn't and shouldn't expect the services you would find in more expensive hotels. You won't get room service or your laundry done but the staff (reception is covered 24 hours) are delightfully welcoming and happy to offer advice and suggestions.

  • Café bar
  • Free Wi-Fi

BED AND BATH

Good design with a clean, simple look: essentially everything you need in a reduced package. Small bathrooms with partially frosted glass walls but big showers are built into the room and there are basic toiletries, good beds and lighting, tea/coffee and a kettle and a decent hairdryer.

Room types: Z Inside Single, Z Inside Double, Z Double, Z Queen, Z Accessible

Key amenities: ensuite bathroom with toiletries, tea and coffee facilities, underbed storage, TV, free Wi-Fi

FOOD AND DRINK

The reception is also a bar and mini café (pizza, potato wedges, bacon rolls). It's handy if you arrive late, or want a quick drink and some ballast before heading out. There's a basic breakfast buffet too, with granola and toppings, pastries, bread and spreads, porridge and cereal, bacon rolls or veggie rolls.

Café & Bar: all-day menu, open daily serving buffet breakfast, snacks and light bites. Free wine and cheese served daily, 5-8pm.
