Go hiking in the Dolomites from the new Adler Mountain Lodge
Go hiking in the Dolomites from the new Adler Mountain Lodge

Conquer the mountains of Macedonia on a strenuous holiday in the Shar Planina, which will put you and your older teenagers to the test. The climax is a climb to the range's highest peak, Titov Vrv (2,747m), as well as reaching the top of Medenica (2,163m), and Golem Krchin (2,341m) for views of Mount Olympus in Greece. Along the way, capture glimpses of lynx and eagles, and explore ancient Orthodox churches. KE Adventure Travel (017687 73966; keadventure.com) offers the seven-night trip for £795 per person, including transfers, hotel accommodation, transport, park entrance fees, excursions and English-speaking local guide. Minimum age 16. Departs Skopje 20 July and 24 August. Excludes flights.

Step out over the ocean on the SeaWalk on the new Regal Princess (0843 373 0333; princess.com), which launches this month. The glass-bottomed walkway extends almost nine metres off the edge of the top deck of the cruise ship offering dizzying views of the waves below. The 3,560-passenger vessel also runs a programme for three- to 18-year-olds, with arts and crafts, sports, and video games. This summer, the ship sails from Venice to Barcelona from 6 to 18 August, calling at Dubrovnik, Athens, Mykonos, Naples, Rome, Florence and Toulon. From £1,699 per person, including main meals and entertainment. Excludes flights.

Make tracks for Mountain Lodge (00 39 0471 775 001; adler-lodge.com), Adler Resorts' latest property, which opens its doors at 1,800m in Italy's Dolomites in July. The 12 two-storey chalets with mountain views – four designed for families – may have been created in the style of Tyrolean huts but the interiors offer sheer luxury, including private saunas. Plus there's a main lodge with 18 guest suites, a lounge, restaurant, spa and infinity pool.

Hiking, picnics, and mountain biking are among the activities on offer in this peaceful spot. From £170 per person per night (reductions for children according to age), full board, including activities. Minimum age eight. Excludes flights.
