Rebellion after eight hours on the runway
An Air India plane from Mumbai to Heathrow spent eight hours stranded on the tarmac at Gatwick yesterday after it was forced to divert because of fog. Passengers had to wait with no food and little information from staff, despite being just a few hundred yards from the terminal building. Police had to be called when frustrated passengers tried to get off the plane. Some of those on board included diabetics, children and a woman who was seven months pregnant. The plane eventually took off for Heathrow after 5pm.
