Six Austrian resorts going strong well into spring

With world-class snowmaking, high-altitude pistes and legendary après-ski, Austria is a brilliant bet for a late-season escape with Crystal Ski Holidays

Of all the 14 countries (and over 150 resorts) that Crystal Ski Holidays features, Austria probably has some of the best snowmaking. This makes it a surefire hit for anyone looking to squeeze in one last trip of the season – or indeed for anyone who’s not yet been this winter and is craving that feeling you only get in the mountains, whether you’re a first-timer or a seasoned pro.

Of the many Austrian resorts that Crystal Ski Holidays will take you to until its last departure on 4 April, Obergurgl is a high-altitude favourite. Other choices include nearby Sölden, with its glacier; the party capital of Ischgl and its neighbour Galtür; and another après-ski legend, St Anton, linked to Lech in the giant Arlberg area.

Crystal Ski Holidays’ departures from 19 regional airports across the UK make it easy to pull together a last-minute trip with friends who live far apart but want to come together for an Easter break.

Choosing a Crystal Ski Holidays package means more than just securing a great stay; it’s about making your mountain getaway as effortless as possible. By bundling your flights, transfers, and accommodation together, you often unlock a level of value that's hard to match when booking separately. To truly make skiing easy, you can also add your lift passes, equipment hire, and ski school to your booking. With all the logistics handled in one place, your only job is to decide which of these expansive Austrian runs to tackle first.

However, it’s not all about the skiing. After the obligatory après action, you’ll want to reinvigorate yourself in one of the sumptuous spas for which Austrian hotels are renowned, before heading for one of the fantastic dinner options.

Obergurgl

(Crystal Ski Holidays)

With even its lowest slopes at 1,900m, charming, snow-covered Obergurgl has late-season appeal. The link to Hochgurgl means the 112km of pistes reach up to 2,840m, which many intermediate skiers love, as they are wide, uncrowded and unintimidating.

Obergurgl’s walking trails allow any non-skiers in your party to enjoy the mountain scenery, too. And don’t miss the exhilarating 3km toboggan ride every Thursday night.

Sölden

(Crystal Ski Holidays)

The Obergurgl pass is also valid in Sölden, 20 minutes away by bus. Sölden is less quaint (but more buzzy) than Obergurgl, and its big network of slopes rises even higher, to the Tiefenbach and Rettenbach glaciers at 3,340m. Here you can visit the 007 Elements museum, where scenes from Spectre were filmed, on an exhilarating Bond-like chase around Sölden’s peaks. You seldom have to take the same lift twice, especially as, from this season, a new piste makes it possible to reach all four major valley points on skis.

Ischgl

Ischgl is a charming, upmarket village, with challenging skiing across a big network of high-altitude pistes. Most of its snow-sure slopes are north-facing, so drop into the south-facing Swiss side if you need to warm up. Like Obergurgl and Sölden, its altitude means it only closes on 3 May. Do visit the recent Silvretta Spa, which has a huge outdoor pool on the roof and an ice rink running around the circumference of the upper floor.

Galtür

(Crystal Ski Holidays)

If you feel your stamina for partying might not live up to Ischgl’s ability to deliver, try Galtür, a calmer resort 15 minutes away by bus. The village is at nearly 1,600m, so you get a real mountain feel in its wood-clad hotels. The ski area is less challenging than Ischgl’s – good for building confidence – and, for an alternative experience, try the resort’s 73km of cross-country trails.

St Anton

(Crystal Ski Holidays)

Another must-visit is St. Anton, a cornerstone of the vast Ski Arlberg area. In recent years, the addition of the Flexenbahn lift has seamlessly linked the region, creating a staggering 305km of interconnected runs and giving skiers plenty of world-class terrain to explore.

As the day winds down, you can soak up the famous Arlberg atmosphere. The slopes above St. Anton, framed by striking sandstone cliffs and pine forests, offer some of the most scenic descents in Austria. For those looking to celebrate a great day on the mountain, legendary spots like the Mooserwirt or Krazy Kanguruh provide a vibrant alpine buzz.

Lech

(Crystal Ski Holidays)

If you’re happy to swap nightlife for lifestyle, stay in elegant Lech, with its boutiques and five-storey, wood-fronted hotels. It’s in the middle of the area, so you can easily ski to Stuben, a little village clustered around an onion-domed church, and to Zürs, even Warth and Schröcken, near the German border. It’s not the highest of ski areas, but it has an excellent snow record, guaranteeing nicely varied skiing.

Whether you’re chasing high-altitude snow, legendary après-ski or simply one more fix of mountain air, Austria delivers right to the very end of the season. And with Crystal Ski Holidays taking care of the details, all that’s left to do is book it and go.

Don't let the season slip away. Explore Crystal Ski Holidays’ full range of Austrian resorts and secure your spot on the slopes today.
