Thrill seekers should head to the nearby resort of Fethiye, to spy its rugged scenery and historic sites from a paraglider. While Marmaris offers everything from parties and waterparks to romance. Head inland to Anatolia to experience the ‘fairy chimney’ rock formations of Cappadocia from the skies in a hot air balloon — a true bucket list experience. For resorts that offer a bit of everything, choose Bodrum and Antalya for everything from Roman ruins, bazaars and nightclubs to yacht-filled marinas, waterparks and pristine beaches. Savvy travel tips to save more

Boost your holiday spending cash with these clever booking hacks

Be strategic Book your days off around bank holidays to maximise your break without using up too much annual leave. For example, this year book Tuesday, August 26th to Friday, August 29th to get nine consecutive days off with four days of annual leave. This can also be a good way to avoid traveling on peak days, which can equate to cheaper flights and hotels.

Be flexible Can you travel outside of peak season? Add a few days of flexibility to your holiday dates? Or travel from another airport? All these little changes can translate to savings as you tap into better offers.

Be organised Start looking well in advance, not just for holidays but for travel insurance, car hire and currency. The more time you have to search, the better deals you’ll find. Many holiday operators offer ‘early bird’ prices too.

Be more efficient Swerve excess baggage fees by packing less and better. Once you’ve edited out all those extra clothes, fold tightly or roll into small balls when packing, making the most of the room you have. Store heavier items such as books and shoes in hand luggage that won’t get weighed.
