Monday 25 November 2019 14:03 GMT

Experience adventure beyond your wildest imagination on a cruise in Asia. With hot weather during the winter months, buzzing night markets and architectural marvels at every turn, the enticing and vibrant sights are always well-paired with the unparalleled on-board comfort and tranquillity of a Marella Cruises holiday.

Whether you want to see Petra’s ancient tombs or shop in Dubai’s well-renowned malls, there’s plenty to discover on the sprawling continent…

Petra, Dubai and Abu Dhabi

As Jordan's only port, Aqaba is your gateway to the magnificent ancient city of Petra

On Marella Cruises' Authentic Arabia 1 (£1,497 per person), you begin your holiday in the Jordanian city of Petra, an UNESCO World Heritage Site that's been described as the eighth wonder of the world. Explore the ancient tombs, temples and theatres of the rose-red city, and take a hike up to the incredible Monastery for truly magnificent views.

Then it’s on to Dubai for the chance to soak up its iconic skyline, revel in its mind-blowing shopping destinations and relax in luxury, before heading onto Manama in Bahrain. Hop on a boat to the nearby Aldar Islands to spot dolphins and relax in style.

Afterwards, you’ll set sail for the grand sites of Abu Dhabi, before finishing up in Oman.

Spend the first of two days in the tranquil country seeing how Khasab earned its mantle as the ‘Norway of Arabia’ by checking out the mountainous coastline and fjord-like inlets. On day two, be inspired by the ancient walled city of Muscat.

Thailand, Vietnam and Singapore

Sihanoukville rests on Cambodia’s southwest coast, looking out across the Gulf of Thailand

On the Colours of the Far East 2 cruise (£1,464 per person), the adventure begins in the port city of Laem Chabang on Thailand’s south coast. With Bangkok a two-hour drive away, you’ll have a chance to taste of the capital’s legendary street food scene and visit the Wat Traimit and Wat Suthat temples.

Sihanoukville in Cambodia is the next port of call: make time for a visit to Ochheuteal Beach for seashore dining, after taking a tour of the city’s colourful places of worship.

Learn more about Vietnam’s fascinating history in Ho Chi Minh City, the country’s former capital and home to the War Remnants Museum, and Ben Thanh Market. Take a memorable trip further afield on a sampan boat down the Mekong Delta, a maze of interconnecting rivers, swamps and tiny islands, where you’ll encounter locals living and working.

Next up, you’ll be heading to the colourful destination of Malacca in Malaysia, followed by two days on the idyllic archipelago of Langkawi. Here, enjoy white sands, breathtaking views from the cable car and the Telaga Tujuh waterfall.

Then it’s off to Penang to sample the well-known foodie scene, followed by Port Kang for the Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur.

Singapore is the next destination you’ll be crossing off the bucket list, heading on to Koh Samui for the jaw-dropping beaches and spiritual landmarks, and returning to Laem Chabang for the final two days.

Luxury cruises

Marella Cruises' ships are floating hotels packed with activities.

The Marella Discovery, for example, which features on many of the Asian itineraries, is home to an open-air cinema and show lounge, as well as two swimming pools and a climbing wall. Or perhaps you’d just like to head to the spa and take a dip in the hot tub.

There are also seven restaurants serving food around the clock and just as many bars. Kora La is the signature pan-Asian restaurant and 47° has international food. Meanwhile, at Bar Eleven, located on the highest point on deck 11, you can sip cocktails while drinking in the sumptuous sea views.

What's more, everybody goes all-inclusive on Marella Discovery, meaning that drinks, including prosecco, plus meals in five restaurants and most onboard activities will all be part of the deal.
