12 Days of Christmas: Katie Derham on how your donations can help relieve children from pain

On day two of our new video series, the BBC presenter and Strictly star explains how your money can be used to fund vitally important pain specialists at Great Ormond Street Hospital

Strictly Come Dancing star Katie Derham today became the latest celebrity to back The Independent's Christmas appeal with a special video message appealing for donations to help critically ill children.

The BBC presenter took a break from rehearsals for the final of the ballroom dancing competition to ask for your support for the Louis Dundas Centre for Children's Palliative Care at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH).

Her appeal is the second in a “12 Days of Christmas” series of celebrity endorsements for the Standard's Give to GOSH appeal.

Derham said: “Having to manage pain is a reality for all sick children, particularly those with life limiting or life threatening conditions.”

She added donations would help ensure pain specialists at the hospital could continue to carry out “vital work to better understand what causes pain in the first place could find new ways to ensure children feel as little pain as possible.”

Comedian John Bishop kicked off the festive video series yesterday with a message in support of “one extraordinary hospital”.
