Australia’s Pat Cummins previews their ICC Cricket World Cup clash with South Africa

Quinton de Kock smashed a second successive century at the Cricket World Cup to help South Africa beat a scrappy Australia team by 134 runs on Thursday.

The 30-year-old de Kock, who will be retiring after the World Cup, followed up his hundred against Sri Lanka with another masterful 109 off 106 balls on an untested wicket in South Africa's total of 311-7. Australia, which won the toss and elected to bowl on a relaid pitch, was sloppy on the field, dropping five catches before getting bowled out for 177 — its second below-200 total in the tournament. And the loss, following defeat in the opener to hosts India, leaves Pat Cummins’ side with a mountain to climb to make the semi-finals.

Fast bowler Kagiso Rabada picked up 3-33, including the controversial wicket of Marcus Stoinis, and Keshav Maharaj clamped the batters by chipping in 2-30 in a 10-over spell. Only Glenn Maxwell (2-34) showed some spark with his offspin bowling in an otherwise poor day on the field for Australia, which had been seend as one of favorites to reach the semifinals.

South Africa climbed on top of the points table with two wins from two games while Australia is without a point after losing both its opening games. Relive all the action from today’s game below:

Australia thumped again as Quinton De Kock century lifts South Africa

Quinton De Kock’s second successive century at the Cricket World Cup helped South Africa to a thumping 134-run victory over Australia in Lucknow.

De Kock was ably supported by the Proteas’ bowlers as, after scoring 311 for seven from their 50 overs, they bowled out Australia for 177 with nearly 10 overs remaining.

Australia made two changes to their side, with Marcus Stoinis returning from injury and Leeds-born Josh Inglis preferred to Alex Carey, while spinner Tabraiz Shamsi came in for Gerald Coetzee for South Africa.

Australia won the toss and put South Africa in to bat, but that quickly looked a questionable decision as De Kock, who scored exactly 100 in their opening win over Sri Lanka, set to work.

He put on 108 with captain Temba Bavuma (35) for the opening wicket, and was well supported by Rassie van der Dussen (26) and Aiden Markram before falling for 109 in the 35th over, having faced 106 balls and struck eight fours and five sixes.
