Follow all the latest updates from the Super 12 match in Abu Dhabi
England have cruised to an eight-wickets victory over Bangladesh to continue their perfect start at the T20 World Cup. After Eoin Morgan’s side crushed West Indies in their opening match with a blistering display of bowling which saw them all out for 55, England were again impressive as they restricted Bangladesh to 124.
Moeen Ali removed Bangladesh’s openers with back-to-back deliveries, while Liam Livingstone took out the experienced pair of Mushfiqur Rahim and captain Mahmudullah just as they were beginning to build momentum. Chris Woakes yielded just 12 runs before Tymal Mills took consecutive wickets at the end of the innings to take his total to three.
Given a target of 125, Jason Roy smashed 61 runs from 38 balls alongside Jos Buttler (18) and Dawid Malan (28 not out) to secure a comfortable victory that sees England top Group 1 ahead of Saturday’s clash against Australia. Follow all the reaction and latest updates from the T20 World Cup below.
10th over: England 88-1 (Roy 46, Malan 16)
Shakib drops the speed of his deliveries but it makes little difference as Roy and Malan continue to keep the ball in play. A mis-field from Shakib on the last ball of the over rather sums up Bangladesh’s efforts so far. Time for drinks.
9th over: England 83-1 (Roy 42, Malan 15)
England are operating a no-dot policy at the moment. Roy and Malan keep the scoreboard ticking but slicing, sweeping and driving Mahedi for eight runs on five balls.
8th over: England 75-1 (Roy 36, Malan 13)
Malan maintains England’s momentum as he hits Nasum for four on his first ball of the over. Malan and Roy then keep the scoreboard ticking with four consecutive singles before Malan lobs the mid-wicket cover with a shot that skips towards the boundary.
7th over: England 63-1 (Roy 33, Malan 3)
Roy steps into Mahedi’s delivery and squeezes a six down the ground and over the head of the diving Bangladesh fielder, before he hits a square ball to off-field for a quick four. England are cruising towards their target.
6th over: England 50-1 (Roy 23, Malan 1)
Roy steadies himself after those appeals as he deals with Mustafizur with a couple of singles, before he turns on two consecutive deliveries to steer the ball to fine leg for consecutive boundaries. Bangladesh considered the appeal as Roy brings up 50 for England.
5th over: England 40-1 (Roy 18, Malan 0)
Dawid Malan comes in to finish off the fifth over, but there are big appeals from Bangladesh on the opening ball of the sixth! Mustafizur thinks he’s caught Roy with his swing, but ultra edge shows that there was no contact with his bat.
WICKET! Buttler c Naim b Nasum (England 39-1)
Bangladesh needed that! Buttler looks to lob the ball into the off-side but didn’t get a proper connect and is picked off by Naim, who carries on his run to make the catch.
4th over: England 37-0 (Roy 17, Buttler 16)
Shoriful takes over for Bangladesh but England continue to bat away their length deliveries. Buttler swats away a toss for four before a run of three singles in a row improves England’s impressive start.
3rd over: England 28-0 (Roy 15, Buttler 10)
Brilliant stuff from England’s openers. Buttler takes aim at a length ball from Shakib and powers England's first six of the day down the ground. Buttler then adds another two, in what has been an ominous opening three overs from England
2nd over: England 18-0 (Roy 14, Buttler 1)
Big appeals from Bangladesh on Mustafizur’s first delivery! He strikes Roy’s pads but the ball was just pitched to the outside and the umpire is unmoved. Mustafizur continues to aim his swing at the outside, before Roy knocks back another four down the pitch. Roy then makes a second four in a row as he clips the ball on his inside edge.
