India v England LIVE: Cricket World Cup result and reaction as defending champions beaten by 100 runs

England have slumped to yet another heavy defeat, this time collapsing in a run chase as India claim victory by 100 runs to maintain their flawless start to their Cricket World Cup.
The defending World Cup champions have lost four matches in a row, are all but eliminated and had no answers to the bowling of Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah. They both starred in the powerplay as England collapsed from 30 without loss to 39 for four and were unable to recover and even get close to the total.
India, meanwhile, have been outstanding, Rohit Sharma’s side have won every game to justify their position as favourites with real quality and depth with the bat and ball.
Liam Livingstone top-scored with 27 in a sorry-looking scorecard for England, but that should take nothing away from India who were exceptional.

India beat England by 100 runs
Rohit Sharma on the first innings: “Obviously I’ve got the experience to bat in this situation as well, it’s not just about going and playing shots.
“I still felt like we were 20 or 30 runs short when we finished the innings but it was a good game today.
“The new ball was a bit challenging and then as the game went on the ball got softer, it was not easy to rotate the strike, but we just had to keep digging.
“I’ll take that win any day.”

Willey has hit another six! And why not, just go out there and play shots, any chance of England getting near the total has gone a long time ago.
Bumrah will be annoyed he has been hit for two sixes, but in the end it is likely to matter little.
Wood can also give it a hit, he scored 42 in a similarly losing cause against South Africa including some massive sixes, and it might give the smattering of England fans in the crowd something to enjoy.
And he can’t, he was bowled by a full straight delivery from Bumrah.
India win by 100 runs.

Rashid has tucked one away for a boundary off his legs. He had to be alert later in the over to just fend one off his body.
Has got Rashid to play at these, but there were also two successive wides. He follows it up with a strong drive.
Shami strikes next ball, Rashid is clean bowled and he has been excellent this evening.

Willey has smashed a massive six! He has got hold of that perfectly and it was a wonderful shot off Bumrah who has been brought back on to wrap things up as quickly as possible.
Michael Atherton explaining that England’s performances has taken everyone aback and that the pundits have been “astonished” by the manner of Jos Buttler’s side’s defeats.
Both Rashid and Buttler have plinked the ball upwards only to watch it fall safe, seven from the over.

Kuldeep keeps going and it feels like another breakthrough could happen any ball.
It’s hard to explain what has happened to England, this is the same squad and the same players (mostly) who have won two World Cups, and one as recently as last year.

England have the 100 up, at one point that looked impossible and I guess this is a situation where you have to take any positive however small, and there have been very few in this innings.

Kuldeep will continue and has his man! Livingstone has been struck on the pads and the umpire has given it!
Livingstone has done what he can and reviewed it, but he did not look confident. three reds and he is gone!

David Willey has come to the crease and has started to block Jadeja.
The Woakes wicket was his first of the match and he will have a wicket maiden.

Woakes had been so sensible, but he has come down the wicket and misread it and Jadeja has fired it a bit quicker and wider and he has been stumped!
