Bayern v Tottenham live: Spurs condemned as ‘not good enough’ after Harry Kane scores in rout
Spurs prepared for the start of the Premier League campaign and the Uefa Super Cup against PSG with a hammering by Harry Kane’s Bayern in Munich
Bayern Munich thrashed Tottenham 4-0 at the Allianz Arena as Harry Kane scored and then missed a penalty against his old club.
Kane struck early with a well-taken finish before slipping in his run-up and missing from the spot a few minutes later. But it was the only blip in an otherwise dominant performance by the hosts, with stunning second-half goals by Kingsley Coman and young substitutes Lennart Karl and Jonah Kusi-Asare completing the win.
The defeat was Spurs’ final tune-up before the Super Cup final against PSG next week, with the Premier League set to kick-off two days later.
Thomas Frank will not have appreciated having such a difficult friendly arranged so close to the season’s start, with very little gained from the beating.
'Spurs were not good enough'
Ex-Tottenham defender Michael Dawson tells SpursPlay: “Tottenham have to lick the wounds, dust themselves down and go again. Spurs just were not good enough. Accept it and move on to the Super Cup on Wednesday. No making excuses, Bayern were better tonight. It is a bigger game next Wednesday.
“Thomas Frank will realise when you are beaten 4-0 in a pre-season friendly, it hurts. Thomas will say, why did we not take the ball in better areas? Why did not we control it better when you are away from home? You go a goal down and give a penalty away within 15 minutes. You are backs are against the wall and it gives them a lift. Spurs did not do well enough in and out of possession.”
Full-time: Bayern Munich 4-0 Tottenham
Here’s a look at Kingsley Coman’s goal. A great finish, but what was Djed Spence doing?

Full-time: Bayern Munich 4-0 Tottenham
I’m not sure what Spurs got out of that friendly. Certainly not any confidence after they were totally outclassed by Bayern Munich.

GOAL! Bayern Munich 4-0 Tottenham (Kusi-Asare, 80 min)
Swedish 18-year-old Jonah Kusi-Asare is the next player to score, with a similar finish to Karl’s well-taken curling effort. Bayern’s academy might be better than Tottenham.
GOAL! Bayern Munich 3-0 Tottenham (Karl, 75 min)
What a lovely goal this is by the 17-year-old substitute, Lennart Karl, who whips a first-time finish into the far corner with his left from the edge of the box.
Bayern Munich 2-0 Tottenham
70 min: Every Bayern outfield has in fact been replaced, with only Manuel Neuer remaining.
Tel is meanwhile on for Richarlison, after the Brazilian’s final act: missing a diving header from close range. Richarlison has looked lively but not lethal. Frank will desperately want Dominic Solanke fit for the start of the season.
Bayern Munich 2-0 Tottenham
67 min: Vincent Kompany follows Thomas Frank in making changes, with several young players entering the fray alongside the experience of Kim Min-jae and Raphael Guerreiro.
