Liverpool head to Crystal Palace on Sunday afternoon, hoping for a third win in a week to start to put pressure back on Manchester City at the top of the Premier League. Victory for the Reds would leave them nine points adrift of the reigning champions with a game in hand, following their draw with Southampton on Saturday. Jurgen Klopp’s team have rediscovered form of late after a slight stutter, beating Brentford last weekend before dispatching Arsenal in midweek to reach the Carabao Cup final.

For Palace, this has undoubtedly been a season of progress and putting into place building blocks for an exciting-looking future, after a summer squad overhaul and the appointment of Patrick Vieira as manager. They sit 13th in the table, with just one win from the last five following a draw at Brighton last time out.

Victory would push the Eagles back into the top half, though the scale of their task is underlined by the fact the Reds have emerged triumphant in all of the last nine competitive meetings between these two teams, including a 3-0 win at Anfield in September and a 7-0 thrashing at Selhurst Park last term. Follow all the team news and match action as Crystal Palace host Liverpool below:

Crystal Palace 1-2 Liverpool: Five things we learned as Jurgen Klopp’s side win to close gap on Man City

Liverpool moved to within nine points of Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table with an entertaining 3-1 win over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

Virgil van Dijk gave the visitors the lead in the eighth minute, thumping a bullet header beyond Vicente Guaita from an Andy Robertson corner. And Liverpool’s dominance was rewarded with a second shortly after the half hour mark when Robertson crossed for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to bring down and fire home at the back post.

Palace finally got a foothold in the game towards the end of the first half and continued that urgency after the break. They eventually found the breakthrough 10 minutes into the second period when Jeffrey Schlupp’s pass found Jean-Philippe Mateta in behind and he rolled the ball across for Odsonne Edouard to slot into an empty net.

Chelsea vs Tottenham

Chelsea have dropped points in nine of their last 13 league games, turning a five-point lead over Manchester City into a 12-point deficit, and they have also played a game more.

They have won just one of their last seven Premier League matches. However, they have lost just two of their last 26 fixtures in all competitions.

The Blues could go five league games without a win for the first time since a run of seven from October to December 2012 under Roberto di Matteo.

Chelsea vs Tottenham: Tottenham must seize the momentum as Antonio Conte fills club with hope before Chelsea test

The Tottenham Hotspur dressing room has been just like fans’ groups in the last two days. The players have been giddily sharing videos of the last few minutes at Leicester City.

Of particular joy has been Antonio Conte going to hug a steward, which has naturally been pointed out to the manager.

A glee has totally replaced a developing sense of gloom. The fretful questions people around the club had been asking have been totally washed away. They’re no longer wondering whether Conte could really walk, or if this is the most difficult situation he’s walked into.

Full-time: Crystal Palace 1 - 3 Liverpool

90+6 mins: There’s the final whistle! Liverpool were fortunate to win a penalty that tled to the third goal and killed the chance of an exciting finish. Crystal Palace where all at sea in the opening 30 minutes but after that were fantastic. Alisson made a bunch of great saves for Liverpool who looked uncharacteristically poor defensively.

The bottom line is that Liverpool pick up all three points at cut the gap of Manchester City to nine.

Crystal Palace 1 - 3 Liverpool

90+3 mins: Joel Ward picks up a yellow card as Liverpool do their best to take time out of the game. They give away a free kick that Michael Olise swings into the box but the Reds defend it well.

Three minutes to go here and the game finally seems out of reach for Crystal Palace.
