West Ham have made it to the quarter-final stage of the Europa League after knocking out six-time champions Sevilla in a pulsating second leg clash at the London Stadium on Thursday night.

The reward for the Hammers is a last-eight clash against French side Lyon, while Rangers face Braga, Barcelona drew Frankfurt and RB Leipzig will square off against Atalanta in the other fixtures.

Rangers reached the quarter-final stage of a European competition for the first time in 14 years despite a narrow 2-1 defeat at Red Star on Thursday night - Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s men doing the damage in the first leg with a 3-0 victory at Ibrox to win 4-2 on aggregate.

After being held to a goalless draw at Camp Nou, Barcelona came from behind to defeat Turkish side Galatasaray. The decisive goal came early in the second half as Frenkie de Jong headed across goal to leave Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang with an easy finish to secure the win for the Spanish giants.

RB Leipzig progressed automatically after their opponents, Russian club Spartak Moscow, were suspended from the competition due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Champions League draw

Welcome to The Independent’s coverage of the Uefa Champions League draw. As we reach the last eight stage, three Premier League clubs remain in the hunt for Europe’s most prestigious trophy.

Reigning holders Chelsea, last year’s beaten finalists Manchester City and 2019 winners Liverpool are all still involved - and any of them could face each other now as there are no seeds or country protection at this stage of the competition.

Uefa will be drawing both quarter-final and semi-final fixtures as well as who will be the ‘home’ team for the final itself meaning teams will have a clear road map to the final in Paris.

The 2022 Champions League final is taking place in Paris after St. Petersburg were stripped of hosting the match - but before teams can dream about glory in France, there are two more rounds to navigate.
