89 mins: GOAL! ENGLAND 2 SPAIN 1 (ASPAS)

Iago Aspas - formerly of Liverpool - curls in a lovely consolation goal. At least, it should be just a consolation.

92 mins: Golden chance for Spain! It falls to Isco 12 yards out but he drags his shot wide. England holding on here now.

95 mins: GOAL! ENGLAND 2 SPAIN 2 (ISCO)

Oh dear England, what have you done? The ball drops to Isco four yards out on the tightest of angles and he squeezes it through the legs of Heaton!

Full time: England 2 Spain 2

Well, that was not how it should have ended. England were fantastic up until the last 10 minutes when they just let Spain attack them. They will bitterly disappointed with that.

And how about Gareth Southgate? It almost certainly won't have an impact on his job credentials but he will be furious with the way England folded at the end there.

That's all from Wembley tonight!

We'll be back with England in the new year as they resume their World Cup qualifying campaign. Will it be led by Southgate? Probably. But the last 10 minutes will not be ones he will be looked favourably for.

Goodnight!
