The battle for the Premier League title has looked like a procession rather than a race for some time now, but Liverpool moved a step closer to making it a mathematical certainty today by beating strugglers Leicester.

It was local boy Trent Alexander-Arnold who secured the win, coming off the bench to score in the 75th minute, in his first appearance since an injury sustained in early March.

The right-back made his 350th appearance in a Liverpool shirt count amid feverish speculation over his potential departure to Real Madrid, scoring his first left-footed goal in his entire career and immediately charging over to the travelling fans to celebrate.

Leicester meanwhile frustrated Liverpool for long periods and even had a Conor Coady goal ruled out for a foul by Patson Daka on Reds keeper Alisson Becker in the build-up, but were ultimately second-best and were condemned to the drop at the final whistle, their second relegation in three seasons.

Arne Slot’s side are now just three points away from lifting the trophy, although second-placed Arsenal’s earlier win over Ipswich meant the Reds couldn’t seal the title this afternoon.

Relieve all of the action from the Premier League clash in our live blog below:

Leicester 0-0 Liverpool

16 mins: After a nervous first couple of minutes Leicester have been taking the fight to the league leaders.

They’ve got their work cut out, mind. Gakpo cuts inside but his attempt is caught by Hermansen.

Busy day incoming for Leicester's defence

Almost a first in 2025 for Leicester: a league goal at home. Wilfred Ndidi struck the post. Mohamed Salah has gone closer, hitting both posts. A busy day for the woodwork at the King Power. And perhaps also for the Leicester defence.

CLOSE! Leicester 0-0 Liverpool

11 mins: Madness! Mavididi gets the better of Bradley down the left, pulling it back to Ndidi in the box, who beats Mac Allister and Alisson but thunders his attempt off the post.

Immediately Liverpool sprint down the other end and Salah forces a save from Hermansen; Salah comes again, looking for Diaz in the box, but it takes a hefty deflection onto the roof of the net.

Breathless stuff.

Leicester 0-0 Liverpool

9 mins: Thomas tracks a long ball to Salah, getting his body in the way to send it out for a corner.

Faes just about gets his head to the delivery before Van Dijk, who isn’t happy about it.

Leicester 0-0 Liverpool

6 mins: That was poor by Leicester, with Ndidi playing Salah onside as Diaz teed him up just 12 yards or so from goal.

Now Leicester counter, De Cordova-Reid makes a great run and sidefoots Tsimikas, but El Khannouss doesn’t quite get onto his cross. Bradley gets away with one after tackling Mavididi in the box, with his man losing control of the ball.

CHANCE! Leicester vs Liverpool

3 mins: Salah rolls an attempt against the far post! It then bounces off the other post as Hermansen scrambles to get there and Slot has his head in his hands.

The Egyptian gives a wry smile.

Leicester vs Liverpool

2 mins: Nervy start by Leicester. There’s a poor clearance by Hermansen as the ball quickly makes its way to the Foxes box, but danger is averted.

Bradley, keeping his place with Alexander-Arnold on the bench, picks Mavididi’s pocket as the forward attempts a move goalwards.
