Liverpool closed the gap on Premier League leaders Manchester City to nine points as Diogo Jota’s double earned Jurgen Klopp’s side a 2-0 victory over Leicester City.

After City’s 2-0 win over Brentford on Wednesday extended their advantage at the top, second-placed Liverpool needed to issue a response, edging in front in the first half at Anfield thanks to Jota’s close-range finish.

Mohamed Salah came off the bench to rapturous applause to make his first appearance since returning from the Africa Cup of Nations, with the Egyptian striker curling a sumptuous effort against the post as Liverpool pressed for a second.

That second did not look like it was going to come as chances continued to come and go, but Jota remained ruthless in the penalty area, drilling home the game-clinching goal three minutes from time. Relive all the action below:

Mo Salah has returned to Liverpool after the final of the Africa Cup of Nations and is available for selection against Leicester tonight. However, Sadio Mane is absent having just returned from celebrating Senegal’s victory in the competition.

Jordan Henderson may not be available after he sustained a back issue during last weekend’s victory over Cardiff City in the FA Cup, but new signing Luis Diaz is fit after picking up an impact injury to his knee in the same game. Brendan Rodgers admits he’s feeling the pressure at Leicester

Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers admits he is under pressure but believes he still has the full support of the club’s board.

The Foxes’ injury-hit squad have struggled this season and criticism of Rodgers and his players increased after Sunday’s disappointing FA Cup exit at the hands of East Midlands rivals Nottingham Forest

When asked if he still had the board’s full backing, Rodgers said: “I’ve never felt I haven’t, but I also understand football.

“I’ve got a great relationship here with the people at the club, a very close working relationship with everyone, but I understand you have to get results.

“Whatever happens to me in the future, those relationships don’t change, they’re great people here, have always supported me.”
