Liverpool manager defends Man United player ahead of big EPL clash

Mohamed Salah hit a hat-trick as Liverpool humiliated Manchester United, romping to a stunning 5-0 victory at Old Trafford in the Premier League on Sunday.

Naby Keita got the visitors off to the ideal start in the fifth minute and then a dreadful mix-up between Luke Shaw and Harry Maguire led to Diogo Jota turning in a low cross from Trent Alexander-Arnold to make it 2-0 after 13 minutes.

United were in disarray at the back and Salah made it 3-0 - scoring for the tenth straight game in all competitions - converting a low ball from Naby Keita and then added the fourth after being set up by Jota.

It was the first time United had been 4-0 behind at the interval in the Premier League era and they were loudly booed off the field.

It took just five minutes after the break for Salah to complete his hat-trick with a trademark clinical finish after a superb through ball from Jordan Henderson.

United’s day got worse as they had a Cristiano Ronaldo goal over-ruled for offside by VAR and then halftime substitute Paul Pogba was sent off for a two-footed tackle on Keita, 15 minutes after coming on.

21 mins: Chance! Benrahma plays Antonio in behind the lines and the striker shoves Romero out of the way to get to the ball. He cuts it back into the box and a deflection off Dier, I think, bobbles the ball out to the arriving Fornals who skews his effort just wide of the far post.

Tottenham then create a good chance themselves as Son is played in between the two Hammers centre-backs and carries the ball into the box. He weaves and shifts the ball but can’t get around the covering Cresswell. The ball comes loose and Lucas Moura collects with his back to goal. He shoots on the turn but the fires his chance wide of the right-hand post!

18 mins: Nearly. Declan Rice pulls a clearance over to the left side of the pitch where Fornals is free. It turns out to be a great pass for West Ham who burst forward on the counter-attack. Fornals flicks a diagonal pass over to the right side of the penalty box as Antonio chases it down. He’s racing Lloris to the ball but the Tottenham goalkeeper gets there first and boots it away.

15 mins: West Ham win a throw in on the left wing and Cresswell chucks the ball to Antonio as he makes a run in behind the Spurs back line. Antonio crosses it into the box and Thomas Soucek volleys it on the spin but spoons his effort high over the goal.

12 mins: Tanguy Ndombele is tackled in the West Ham box by Kurt Zouma and goes to ground. There’s a half-appeal and a VAR check for a potential penalty but nothing comes of it. Ndombele hobbles off the pitch after a medical check up but he’s fine to play on.

West Ham eventually work the ball out to Fornals on the left side before he passes it to Bowen in the middle. Ben Johnson makes a run off the ball over on the right and provides an option for Bowen. The right-back receives the pass and knocks into the box. Bowen collects the ball and whips a cross to the far side of the area where Fornals volleys it at goal and draws Lloris into a diving stop low to his right.

3 mins: Aaron Cresswell was brilliant for West Ham against Genk on Thursday night, bombing forward on the left wing and whipping dangerous crosses into the box. He does so again here and wins an early corner for West Ham. Jarrod Bowen delivers it into the box, Hugo Lloris flaps it away but the ball comes out to Said Benrahma whose shot from just inside the box gets blocked and cleared away.
