Newcastle such a tough place to go and win- Arteta

Anthony Gordon’s controversial second-half winner clinched Newcastle a 1-0 win against Arsenal, whose unbeaten Premier League start was halted at St James’ Park.

Gordon’s close-range finish was confirmed as a goal after a triple VAR check and was all that separated the two sides in an attritional encounter of few chances.

The Gunners slipped to their first defeat in 11 league games this season, while victory for Newcastle was affirmation that they can continue to mix it with the big guns.

Arsenal remain third in the table, two points behind new leaders Manchester City, with Newcastle four points adrift in sixth.

78 mins: Oh my goodness... well it was a surprise that Jacob Murphy was already back on the pitch after just returning from a shoulder injury... and it looks like that shoulder has just popped out of place again.

Murphy’s game is over as he makes his way off the pitch in some pain. Horrible.

Newcastle 1-0 Arsenal

82 mins: Arsenal and Tottenham came into the weekend with the only two unbeaten records left in the Premier League. Arsenal’s is under serious threat heading into the final period of the match.

There will be a lot of added time, you would think.

Martinelli is growing into this and all of Arsenal’s threat is now coming down his side.

86 mins: The Arsenal threat is growing but you also sense that Newcastle are built to see out such situations. Trossard lines up a strike from the edge of the box but there are several black and white shirts throwing themselves at the shot and they manage to block.

Newcastle 1-0 Arsenal

88 mins: How on earth is Bruno Guimaraes still on the pitch? That’s the question Arsenal fans will be asking. The Newcastle midfielder catches Fabio Vieira around the neck with a stray hand - and he finally goes into the book.

Arsenal will be saying that should have been a second yellow.

90 mins: There will be EIGHT minutes added on.

It comes as Livramento, who has been excellent against Martinelli, slides in and catches the Brazil winger. So he becomes the latest yellow card.

Chance for Arsenal to swing it in, too.

Newcastle 1-0 Arsenal

90+5 mins: You know somethings not quite right with Arsenal when Saka is giving away a five-yard pass.

Pope has not had a shot to save this half.

That said, Martinelli and Zinchenko combine well and Lascalles has to make an excellent clearance from his six-yard line.
