Gabriel Jesus: The Brazilian had not scored for Manchester City since 25 September before his hat-trick against Shakhtar Donetsk on Wednesday night. While the bizarre penalty award involving Raheem Sterling took the limelight, the 21-year-old’s contribution was outstanding in all areas as City recorded their biggest win in the Champions League. Jesus may initially be on the bench on Sunday given Sergio Aguero’s recent form, but he once again demonstrated the talent that could be the difference in the derby.
United win a free kick in City's half. The ball comes into the box but City defend well and then break with Raheem Sterling, there are four City players to United's two as Sterling gives it to Sane. Sane shoots and sends it way over the bar.
Gundogan replaces Aguero as Ederson plays another long ball to Sane. He switches the play to give the ball to Bernardo Silva and a scrap for the ball happens in Man Utd's box before it is cleared away.
Man City hold off a Utd attack and they move the ball forward themselves. At the minute they look content to hold on to the ball and wait for an opening to appear.
Gundogan starts the move, playing Sterling into the box. Sterling gives the ball to Bernardo Silva on the right. He takes his time and hits the ball into the centre of the penalty area. Gundogan drifts away from Matic, brings the ball down and sends it home.
A thoroughly deserved win for Manchester City. They were the better team from the start, but a minor blip from Ederson threatened to bring United back into the contest. They looked sharp, strong and clinical and as such move back to the top of the Premier League.
