Spurred on by injustice and indignation, Southampton launched a resounding late fightback to snatch victory and leave Tottenham Hotspur’s top-four hopes sodden and deflated. As the full-time whistle blew, Ralph Hasenhuttl sank to his knees in the dugout and roared into the rain with the sort of fervour that had matched his side’s courage. Twice they had trailed Tottenham only to rally spectacularly as Armando Broja cancelled out Jan Bednarek’s own goal before Mohamed Elyounoussi and Che Adams scored near-identical headers within the space of three frantic minutes to seal a 3-2 victory in north London. It was Spurs’ second that had caused such controversy and ultimately served to ignite Southampton’s fury.
What appeared a clear foul in the build-up had left Broja crumpled on the halfway line with a head injury, but play was allowed to continue and Son Heung-min thought he had snatched all three points for Spurs. Antonio Conte became so incensed by Southampton’s protests that he had to be restrained by his assistants but by full-time the Italian’s face was bleak and almost disbelieving. Presented with a great chance to gain a foothold in the top-four race, this defeat will stain long after the clothes have dried, but perhaps that was fitting on a night when Spurs defended within themselves and Southampton played out of their skin.. 70 mins: Tottenham take the lead! A Spurs win the ball in midfield and head it over to Harry Winks. He passes it up to Harry Kane who threads Lucas Moura in behind on the right side. Moura curls a perfect cross into the box for Son Heung-min who guides it calmly into the botttom right corner!

69 mins: It’s getting a little heated out there now despite the rain. James Ward-Prowse blasts a shot at goal but has his effort blocked by Ben Davies. The ball loops up into the air, Armando Broja and Davinson Sanchez both attempt to win it in the air. There’s a little shove on the Southampton striker and he goes searching for a penalty. Sanchez doesn’t like that and lets him know causing the two of them to square up.

66 mins: Tottenham try to counter by sending the ball up to Kane. He’s closed down by Salisu who holds up the striker’s run until Romeu can get across to win back the ball.
Southampton don’t keep it for long though. The momentum is all with Tottenham at the minute. Harry Winks curls a cross to the back post where Sergio Reguilon meets it in the air. He’s challenged by Kyle Walker-Peters and can’t guide the ball at goal.

63 mins: Bentancur gets into the action immediately with a lovely diagonal pass out to Lucas Moura on the right wing. Moura curls the ball into the penalty area but knocks it too close to Forster who scoops it up without too much trouble.
Harry Kane is taken out by Bednarek in the penalty area as Reguilon puts another cross in but Southampton are spared from conceding a penalty as the offside flag goes up against Kane.

60 mins: Che Adams is clattered by a Davinson Sanchez sliding tackle and the Tottenham defender goes in the book. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is taken off by Antonio Conte with Rodrigo Bentancur coming on to make his Premier League debut for Spurs.

57 mins: How’s that not gone in?! Sergio Reguilon is given the ball on the left wing and fumbles a bit trying to bring it under control. When he does he delivers a great cross over to the back post where Harry Kane arrives and heads the ball into the ground as Emerson Royal tries to reach it with a high foot. That may has just distracted Kane as his effort bounces just in front of him and loops up over the crossbar!

54 mins: Tottenham have already started the second half in a more aggressive frame of mind. Harry Kane drops back to receive the ball and then slots a diagonal pass across the pitch to Sergio Reguilon. He then crosses it into the box and finds Son Heung-min who taps it wide of the near post.

51 mins: Emerson Royal gives the ball away to Armando Broja who sets up Stuart Armstrong for a long ranged effort. His shot hits Ben Davies and sails over the crossbar for a Southampton corner.
James Ward-Prowse delivers the set piece into the middle of a cluster of bodies. The ball comes loose and Oriol Romeu snatches at a shot from the front of the box and hoofs it over the goal.

48 mins: Close! Tottenham win a free kick on the left side of Southampton’s final third. Sergio Reguilon wips it over to the back post where Davinson Sanchez leaps at the ball and tries to turn it back into the middle. He can’t wrap his foot around the ball though and ends up prodding it out for a goal kick.

Kick off: No changes from either team. Harry Kane gets the match back underway and knocks the ball back to Ben Davies. Southampton fly forward on the press and immediately put the defender under pressure. He sends it across to Davinson Sanchez who boots it long and knocks the ball all the way through to Fraser Forster.
