Masters 2022 LIVE: Leaderboard and scores as Scottie Scheffler beats Rory McIlroy to win the green jacket
Follow live reaction as Scottie Scheffler sealed a dominant Masters victory after holding off a thrilling late surge from Rory McIlroy
Scottie Scheffler has won The Masters after holding off the challenge of Cameron Smith and a sublime final-round performance from Rory McIlroy at Augusta to secure a first major title.
It completes a stunning rise and caps a dominant run for the 25-year-old American, who in the space of 56 days has won his first professional tournament at the Phoenix Open, reached number one in the world rankings after a further two wins in four starts, and now claimed the green jacket.
McIlroy, who started his round at +1 and at one point this week was 13 shots off the pace, carded a wonderful seven-under-64 to claim a surprise second-place finish with the joint-lowest final round in Masters history.
His magnficant charge was sealed as he chipped in for birdie from the 18th bunker but ultimately his run came too late in the day and his wait for an elusive Masters title goes on. Scheffler wrapped his victory over the closing five holes and finished three shots clear with a total score of -10, even if required a four-putt double bogey at the last.

Masters 2022
Scottie Scheffler is joined in the Butler Cabin by Hideki Matsuyama
He says of his chip-in at the 3rd: “I was very excited, surprised too. It got things rolling for me. I may have looked calm on the outside but as Hideki knows it’s a long day.
“I knew I was in control of the tournament and if I played my game I’d win. I saw that Rory had made it -7. I think me and Cam got a little tight after that!”
He adds: “I can’t put into words how much it means to win the Masters and be able to come back here every year. I’m at a loss for words right now. I’m glad I had the hiccup at the last hole as I means I’m not as emotional to do this interview.”
And with that, Matsuyama presents Scheffler with the green jacket. There’s a slight awkard moment as he can’t find the arm! But that’s a moment he will never forget.
Masters 2022
Ted Scott, Scheffler’s caddy - who now has three wins after also helping Bubba Watson to two Masters titles, speaks to Sky Sports.
“Can you pinch me? It feels like a dream, trying to understand what is happening. The more you see something the more you understand it. I think this is 15th Masters. I’ve seen a lot of shots around here.”

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER WINS THE MASTERS!
There it is. There could only have been one champion based on the last four days play.
He misses his par putt - and the bogey putt too from inches - but thankfully he had plenty of shots to spare!
Scottie Scheffler is the Masters champion!
Masters 2022: Scheffler at 18
Just a drive, a chip, and as many putts as he would like to go.
Scheffler’s tee shot at 18 hangs a little right and catches the rough. He may have to hit it through the trees to make the green.
Scheffler plays out to the side and then lands his wedge safely on the green. The 18th rises as one to salute him.
Smith finishes with a par to end in a tie for third with Lowry.
Masters 2022: Closing birdie for Lowry
Shane Lowry finishes an excellent week at Augusta with a closing birdie at the 18th and what looks set to be a top-five finish.
That’s a brilliant fight from the Irishman, who found himself at level par today after an early triple bogey.
Masters 2022
Scheffler sent his drive at the 17th wide to the right but has chipped back to safety and onto the fairway as he closes in on the green jacket.
The wedge from there is magnificent and nestled into within two feet. He makes his par and now just has the 18th to look forward to.
He can enjoy it, too, and he’s deserved that.
Masters 2022: Par for Scheffler
Scheffler makes his par at 16 after finding the green and making his two-putt with little fuss. Smith gets a well-earned birdie to move to -5.
Masters 2022: Birdie for Scheffler!
Scheffler, with a four-shot lead, goes for the par-5 15th in two! It’s bold, but he makes it over the burn. He’s in a great position for a further birdie.
And that’s just what he gets. Scheffler is rewarded for his bravery and is now five shots clear of McIlroy with three to play.
Smith, too, makes birdie at 15 to get back to -4.
