Corach Rambler won the 175th running of the Grand National on the UK’s biggest betting day
Corach Rambler won the 2023 Grand National at Aintree backing up its status as the 8/1 favourite.
Mister Coffey and Coko Beach led early on and throughout most of the thrilling race. But chaotic scenes early on saw a number of fallers, including Lifetime Ambition, who was taken out by a loose horse at fence 9.
However, Corach Rambler, ridden by Derek Fox and trained by Lucinda Russell took the lead from Mister Coffey over the final fence and kicked for home to record a memorable win.
The race had been delayed after protestors breached the Aintree racecourse fence and got on to the course. The Grand National attracted criticism from animal rights protestors in the build-up, with three arrests made in connection with potential co-ordinated disruption activities at Aintree, which became nine following the pre-race disruption

Corach Rambler trainer Lucinda Russell, speaking to ITV Racing: “He just loved the fences. It is very personal this one. I will always remember One for Arthur, he was a brilliant horse, but this was very special.
“This is such an advert for syndicate ownership. It is fantastic, fairytale stuff. They have got themselves a very, very good horse.
“He is a very intelligent horse and when he jumped the last I just felt he would win.
“Derek Fox was very close to not making the ride. He had a terrible fall, hurt his shoulder again. I am so pleased he was on it because he knows Corach so well. He is a fabulous jockey.”
‘A dream come true'
The winning syndicate owners can’t believe how well Corach Rambler ran. Their horse has now triumphed at Cheltenham and in the Grand National.
Disruptive protestors arrested
Merseyside Police have confirmed that nine arrests have been made at Aintree concerning the protestors who caused a delay to the start of the Grand National. Three arrests were also made earlier in the day.
“Just after 5pm a large number of protesters attempted to gain entry on to the course.” came a statement.
“The majority were prevented from breaching the boundary fencing but the nine individuals who managed to enter the course were later arrested by officers.
“We respect the right to peaceful protest and expression of views, but criminal behaviour and disorder will not be tolerated and will be dealt with robustly.”

Corach Rambler stormed to victory in the 2023 Grand National at Aintree this afternoon to earn trainer Lucinda Russell another National winner and jockey Derek Fox his second triumphant in the World’s most famous horse race.
After a delay to the start of the race thanks to animal rights protestors attempting to infiltrate the course the Grand National got underway with punters estimated to have to spent around £250m on having a flutter.
Last year’s winner Noble Yeats became the the first seven-year-old horse to win in more than 80 years and put in a decent run to regain his title finishing fourth out of the 39 runners.
Two-time Cheltenham winner Corach Rambler was too strong though and Fox timed his move to perfection, leaping over the last of the 30 fences into first place before driving to the line ahead of Vanillier and Gaillard Du Mesnil.

At the trophy presentation, winning trainer Lucinda Russell, owner Peter Scudamore and jockey Derek Fox all receive a huge applause as they step onto the podium.
The true star is of course Corach Rambler who was seriously impressive throughout the race.

The margin of victory was quite impressive. Corach Rambler won that one by two-and-a-quarter lengths from Vanillier with Gaillard Du Mesnil a further four-and-three-quarter lengths back in third.
