As the summer season sets in TripAdvisor have announced their official pick of the best amusement parks in the UK, Europe, and across the world, with Discovery Cove in Florida topping the list as the number one global amusement destination for holidaymakers looking for some fun.

The Travellers’ Choice awards are selected based on reviews written by millions of travellers offering their opinions and ratings on the site. The awards take account of both the quality and quantity of reviews for all the top theme parks in the world.

Described as a 'beautiful, tropical oasis' the Discovery Cove headed the list as the best amusement park, as it includes a wide variety of water activities ranging from swimming with dolphins to snorkeling with tropical fish and rays.

Florida did notably well in this year’s awards with five amusement parks in the top 10 worldwide, with Magic Kingdom, Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Universal’s Islands of Adventure and Disney’s Hollywood Studios also making appearances.

While the UK couldn’t boast any attractions in the top ten globally, the UK has been revealed as home to more 2014 award-winning amusement parks than any other European country, with seven winning parks named in Europe’s top 25, alongside tough competition from such parks as Walt Disney’s Studio Parks and Germany’s Europa park.

The Blackpool Pleasure Beach amusement park achieved the coveted top position as the UK’s best amusement park; describing itself as ‘the UK’s most ride-intensive park’ it offers such attractions as the Big One and Valhalla.

Other top UK theme parks following close behind included Alton Towers located in Staffordshire, Brighton Pier and Surrey’s Thorpe Park Resort.
