OUR REVIEW

THE NEIGHBOURHOOD

The wonderfully curvy TF-563 connects you with Tenerife South airport in around 30 minutes; add an extra 45 minutes if flying into Tenerife North. The outdoors is outstandingly great here in one of the island's lesser-built-up areas. Pack boots or hire a bike to make the most of the setting and warm up after a walk in the bracing countryside at El Refugio de Vilaflor, a restaurant offering a glorious respite.

By plane: flights from London, Birmingham and Manchester to Tenerife take around 4 hours 30 mins. The hotel is a 40-minute drive from Tenerife South. There is free parking on-site. Book flights to Tenerife.

THE LOOK AND FEEL

Hotel Spa Villalba feels like an extension of its surroundings, rather than a blot on the landscape. Lovingly crafted from locally-quarried stone and Canarian wood, it is the interior of Tenerife encapsulated in a building. Stained-glass windows feel like you're at a place of worship, and you will celebrate the incoming sunlight.

THE FACILITIES

You don't notice the staff at Hotel Spa Villalba as they largely blend into the background, but they are there if you need them. However they're keen for you to tune into the natural surroundings and offer unfussy service accordingly. There's a climbing wall, gym, and a partially covered outdoor pool.

Some suites come with a whirlpool bath but all bathrooms are fitted with a shower and tub. Rooms are spacious and bathrobes make you even more inclined to recline in the relaxed luxury.

Key amenities: ensuite, bathrobe, tea and coffee facilities, TV, desk, hairdryer, free Wi-Fi

FOOD AND DRINK

Guests need to dress to impress at La Vendimia with men having to wear shirts rather than T-shirts and trousers instead of shorts. The buffet breakfast is largely continental, although chefs will prepare eggs just the way you like them. There is a set dinner for guests plus an á-la-carte menu.

La Vendimia: formal restaurant, set menu and à la carte dining. Local produce and wines.
