OUR REVIEW

THE NEIGHBOURHOOD

The six-minute car journey from New Milton station to the hotel is not the prettiest, but once you are on the property you can take an idyllic winding path down to the nearby beach of Naish. Bournemouth is 30 minutes in one direction, and Southampton is 45 minutes in the other. The Gothic revival mansion Highcliffe castle is a 30-minute walk away (or a seven-minute drive).

By car: around 2 hours 30 minutes from London and Bristol, and 3 hours from Birmingham. Free parking available.

By train: London Waterloo to New Milton takes 1 hour 40 minutes. The hotel is a 5-minute drive from the station. Book trains to New Milton.

THE LOOK AND FEEL

From the pretty regency red-brick exterior to the deep scarlet interiors of the bar, this country house hotel is beautiful. Sit on the terrace and look out on the manicured croquet lawn, and beyond to the 9-hole golf course surrounded by woodland. Corridors are decorated with framed botanical prints and choice antiques.

THE FACILITIES

With a ratio of staff to guests being three to one, the service here is among the best in the world. Facilities are extensive, including one of Europe's largest hydrotherapy pools, indoor and outdoor tennis courts, a cookery school, and a 9-hole golf course, which is free for guests to use, including equipment.
