OUR REVIEW

THE NEIGHBOURHOOD

The Pulitzer enjoys an enviable location in the historic centre, fronting onto two of its most picturesque canals. Within the Nine Streets shopping area, it is just a four-minute walk from the Anne Frank House and a little more to the Royal Palace. The Rijksmuseum and others on Museumplein are a short tram ride, as is Centraal Station. There's plenty of choice of restaurants, cafés and bars nearby, but Cafe t' Smalle is a lovely little traditional 'brown bar', while Long Pura is a popular Indonesian restaurant.

By train: the Eurostar goes direct from London St Pancras to Amsterdam Centraal. The hotel is a 20-minute walk from the station. Book trains to Amsterdam.

By plane: direct flights from London and Manchester take around 1 hour 15 minutes. The hotel is a 20-minute drive from Schiphol airport and a 15-minute drive (or 20-minute walk) from central station. Parking costs €62.50 per day. Book flights to Amsterdam.

THE LOOK AND FEEL

The hotel consists of 25 restored 17th and 18th-century canal townhouses successfully put together to create a supremely comfortable, characterful yet contemporary hotel. The swish public areas, with plenty of plush attributes, are augmented by lovely garden courtyards, and there are numerous nods to Dutch culture, such as reception desks sporting Delft blue tiles and flooring, and exposed beams referencing old Dutch warehouses.

THE FACILITIES

There's no spa or pool at the Pulitzer, but the hotel easily makes up for this with its other features. It has three attractive bar/restaurant options, a gym, garden courtyards and its own vintage boat available for daily tours. There is a good business centre with computers and printers, a library and free daily newspapers. Guest rooms are very comfortable, and some are very opulent.
