THE NEIGHBOURHOOD

The hotel is in the south city suburb of Ranelagh, an upmarket and mostly residential area which is well-served with restaurants, cafés and convenience stores. It's around 35 minutes' walk to the city centre or 15 minutes' drive. It is also on bus routes to the city and less than five minutes' walk from the Luas tram, which takes 15 minutes to the city.

By plane: direct flights to Dublin from Manchester and Birmingham (1 hour), and London (1 hour 15 minutes). It's a 30-minute drive to the hotel. Parking costs €15 per night. Book flights to Dublin.

THE LOOK AND FEEL

This is a very trendy and fun hotel. The ground floor area is open-plan, with the check-in area at the front leading to the Americana cocktail bar, a bright open space with large windows and curved banquette seating. The hotel has lots of bright, colourful art in public areas and in the rooms, which are cosy and well-equipped with gadgets plus design magazines.

Service is friendly and informal. There are two bar/restaurants plus a cinema with a bar, and a coffee hatch. There is paid on-street parking nearby or the hotel has secure parking around five minutes' walk away (€15 per night).

BED AND BATH

There are 40 small and cosy pod-style rooms, as well a bunk room with a single bunk over a double bed. Rooms have huge smart TVs (so you can access Netflix) plus all types of gadgets. Beds are extremely comfortable, there are robes and slippers and power rainfall showers, plus design magazines to read.

FOOD AND DRINK

There's a good selection of food and drinks. Americana is a large buzzing bar serving brunch, tapas and cocktails. Layla's rooftop bar has an excellent Italian menu with cosy booth seating or a covered and heated outdoor terrace. The Dime coffee hatch has excellent coffee and pastries and there's also a bar in the cinema.

Layla's: rooftop restaurant, Italian cuisine. Open daily for all-day dining and weekend brunch.

Americana Bar: atmospheric cocktail bar, bar snacks and sharing plates. Open daily from 12pm.
