The ambience in the front part of this historic hotel is traditional and old-school in style - the hotel was built as a hotel in 1863 when the first railway connecting Dún Laoghaire and Dublin city opened, and the hotel's interior reflects this heritage, with many original features in the public reception areas and the rooms, which are decorated in a classic style. There is a wing of newer rooms in the rear of the hotel which have a darker colour palette and do not have views.
