OVERVIEW

You're never far from a beach at a Seaside hotel. Their Lanzarote establishment overlooks the vanilla ice-cream-toned sand of Playa de Matagorda. It fits in with the ethos of island champion Cesár Manrique, the reference point for all things Lanzarote, with a sensitive low-level development. This supports a tourism philosophy of blending in with the landscape rather than dominating it.

OUR REVIEW

THE NEIGHBOURHOOD

You can reach Seaside Los Jameos within ten minutes of leaving the departures hall by hire car or taxi. A promenade links Playa de Matagorda, on which the hotel sits, to the nearby Playa de la Concha and the further-away Playa Grande, deeper in the heart of popular Puerto del Carmen resort. Nearby Restaurante La Marisma offers fresh al fresco seafood and a cosy interior showcases paintings from local artists, which you can buy.

By plane: flights from London, Birmingham and Manchester to Lanzarote take around 4 hours 30 mins. The hotel is less than ten minutes' drive from Lanzarote airport. Free parking on-site. Book flights to Lanzarote.

THE LOOK AND FEEL

Cesár Manrique was a celebrated architect and artist committed to preserving Lanzarote's natural beauty. The team who designed Seaside Los Jameos were schooled by him. Verdant gardens house jacarandas and palm trees, and the on-site Museum of Traditional Craftsmanship displaying costumes from various islands reinforces the connection with the hotel's location.

THE FACILITIES

Management are not office-based, preferring to be visible in public areas and are approachable for maximum client satisfaction. Consequently, guests tend to return. There are two swimming pools, four tennis courts, and a 13-hole mini golf course. If you're after an all-over tan, take advantage of a naturist solarium.

Vegans will appreciate the clearly-marked offerings in the main restaurant during buffet breakfasts, lunch and dinner. There are some nods to international guests with German apple pancakes at breakfast alongside English breakfasts, although Spanish chorizo also makes an appearance. The Belingo Bar is the best place for a sundowner cocktail.

Restaurant: Canarian and international delicacies, buffet meals, à la carte menu, themed days. Open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Pool bar: drinks, snacks, crêpes and cakes.
