A good time is to be had by all who stay here, thanks to stylish décor, plentiful facilities and the fact it's co-owned by legendary rapper and producer Pharrell Williams. Sitting on a quieter stretch of Washington Avenue, it features a sizeable swimming pool, an achingly cool bar and restaurant, obligatory co-working and hangout space, and a well-equipped gym.

Set on a slightly quieter stretch of Washington Avenue, you'll have to walk a little further to get up to the buzzier areas near Espanola Way or Lincoln Road, but there are still a smattering of restaurants and bars around and, of course, the beach and Ocean Drive are just five minutes' walk away. Classic South Beach restaurant, Joe's Stone Crab, is a ten-minute stroll, offering fresh fish and seafood, including the local crustaceans, as it has done since 1913.

By plane: direct flights from London to Miami International take 10 hours. The hotel is a 25-minute drive from the airport. Parking costs $50 per day. Book flights to Miami.

The open air courtyard leading to the lobby features a Moroccan-style wall fountain, black and white chequered floor tiles and sheaves of big green plants. Inside, tropical-print paper lines the walls, hip-hop music plays and receptionists groove behind the desk; the vibe is friendly and laid back. The public areas - the library, pool deck, gym and bar/restaurant - are playfully designed with touches such as a lamp shaped like a giraffe and alligator-print wallpaper in the elevators.

The pool deck is well stocked with loungers, daybeds and cabanas, in a mix of pink toile de Jouy-style print or green or pink candy stripes. A bar delivers drinks to your side and DJs play sets on the weekends. The gym has Peloton bikes and TechnoGym Skillrun treadmills, while outside at pool level is a set of high-tech monkey bars. Fitness classes, from HIIT circuit training to yoga, are also on offer.

However, they make good use of space, with hanging racks instead of a wardrobe and shelving built into the bed (which is located up against the wall). A selection of prints hangs above, and there's a pink micro-fridge.
