Mountain highs

Follow the signposted hiking trails that wind up and down the peaks of Zell am See-Kaprun. Don’t miss the highlight, the 3,203m Kitzsteinhorn glacier, which you can reach on the mountain railway. If you prefer to go on foot, you’ll have some superb hiking trails to choose from, as well as paths across the glacier. Or take the Kitzsteinhorn Explorer Tour, where a National Park Ranger takes you through four climate zones. However you get to the top, look out for the Top of Salzburg viewing platform where you can take in panoramic views.

Hop on the cable car up to Schmittenhöhe mountain for high-altitude hikes along the Pinzgau Walk or the Sisi circular route. The new mountain railway takes you to Maiskogel so you can explore more of the 240km of mountain trails in the Zell am See-Kaprun region. Cyclists can hurtle downhill on the freeride trails, and if you want to ease the strain a bit, rent an e-bike instead.

Lake lovers

With waters as clean as the crisp Alpine air, Lake Zell is a magnet for lovers of water sports as well as lazy days spent sunbathing and swimming. Active types can go paddle boarding, sailing, water skiing or kitesurfing, or they try something gentler such as pedalos or rowboats. From May to October, the beauty of Lake Zell becomes even more spectacular during the Magic Lake Shows. Three times a week, the lake becomes a flashing and musical setting for lasers and lights during this free spectacle.

Thrill-seekers can see nature at its wildest when the winter snows melt and water rushes into canyons and ravines. That’s the cue to bring out the white water rafts and kayaks. Spectators can still see this natural wonder from the relative comfort of the bridges and wooden walkways of the Sigmund Thun Gorge.

Fun and frolics

While you’re on the Kitzsteinhorn summit, join the fun on the Ice Arena, where you can borrow free toboggans and fling yourself down the slopes. There’s even a snow beach with sun loungers. Afterwards, warm up in the bubbling waters of the Tauern Spa.

Golfers can get into the swing in the Golfclub Zell am See-Kaprun Saalbach-Hinterglemm, one of the most beautiful golf courses in the Alps. You don’t need to be a member to play – just sign up for a tee time and enjoy the magnificent setting. And your Mobility Card gives you free unlimited public transport during your stay.
