With 55 European desinations covered by WIZZ from London Luton, your holiday choices are now only limited by your imagination. Here are five out-of-this world cities to inspire you...

Cluj-Napoca: visit The Paintbrush Factory

This Romanian city has a youthful, exciting buzz to it, with innovative start ups and funky little bars spread all over the place. But what you might not expect is its reputation as a pioneering art hub – it was named one of “Art Cities of the Future” in a book highlighting places shaking up the art world. One of the main reasons? The Paintbrush Factory (fabricadepensule.ro), a collective space for the contemporary arts that transformed an industrial wasteland into a creative haven. Exhibits change frequently, so you might see a visual installation or a contemporary dance piece.

Moscow: head to the Museum of Cosmonautics

(Alamy (Alamy)

It's not hard to miss the entrance to the Museum of Cosmonautics (kosmo-museum.ru). It’s marked by a 350-foot sculpture that soars into the sky, built as a “Monument to the Conquerors of Space”. The museum itself offers an excellent insight into the Russian space programme, with fascinating exhibits like the spacesuit worn by Yuri Gagarin, the first astronaut in space, as well as the cabin he landed in. You’ll also see the taxidermy bodies of the first dogs in space.

Oslo: have a cocktail at Fuglen

A cool coffee shop by day and cocktail bar at night, Fuglen (fuglen.no) is the perfect place to while away a few hours with whatever tipple you fancy. There’s a cool, mid-century vibe to the interiors, with vintage seating and side tables giving a retro, Mad Men feel to the space. And if you take a liking to anything, you can take it home, because everything in Fuglen is for sale, from the table lamp in the corner to the vase on a shelf.

Varna: soak up the rays on the beach

(Alamy (Alamy)

One of the biggest bargains in Europe for a beach break, Varna’s coastline is filled with golden sands where you can unwind on a sun lounger, ice cold cocktail in hand, and delve into a good book. Sunny Beach is the best known, with countless restaurants and bars on the shore – you can also go on a yacht cruise or rent a sea kayak if you’re feeling restless. Things are just as wild out in Golden Sands, but you can also explore the woodlands that surround the beach.

Timisoara: go to the Art Museum

(Alamy (Alamy)

Housed in a beautiful palace, the art museum in Timisoara (muzeuldeartatm.ro) is a piece of art in itself, an 18th century building in Unirii Square. Inside, you’ll find a blend of contemporary art, drawings and decorative art, mostly from local artists, as well as European works, including the private collection of pieces gathered by Ormós Zsigmond in the 19th century. The city will serve as European Capital of Culture in 2021, too.
