From UV protectors and post-beach hair masques to leave-in repairers and colour correctors, we've got beach hair rescue sorted for you this summer.
1. L'Oreal Professionnel Absolut Repair Lipidium Masque: £12.99, lookfantastic.com
A powerful reconstructing blend of keratin, ceramides and lipids that replenish parched hair, lock in essential nutrients and protect against further damage from all possible aggressors including sun, salt, chlorine, blow-drying and colouring. After testing my fine, highlighted hair felt thick and bouncy with far fewer flyaways. It's easily the best hair repair mask I've used in a long time.
2. Redken Color Extend Sun Take Cover Mousse SPF25: £13.40, hairtrade.com
If you've ever burnt your scalp on holiday, this is for you. It's a specially designed mousse to be used on the hair – particularly in vulnerable places like the hair line and the parting, where hair is finer – to protect against burning, moisture loss and cuticle damage. If, like me, you have fine hair anyway, this is a godsend for your scalp. It also gives body to limp locks and protects coloured hair from UV-related fading. Ticks all my boxes.

3. Kerastase Soleil CC Creme: £15.10, lookfantastic.com
A multi-use hair treat that can be used on damp or dry hair to protect in the sun or to repair after the beach or pool. It also adds masses of shine to lacklustre post-summer locks.
4. Sachajuan Hair in The Sun: £20, feelunique.com
A two-pronged attack on sun damage, this light cream protects hair and hair colour against UV and also works as a styling cream. Wonderfully light, it doesn't weigh down fine flyaway hair and leave it looking greasy – which many sun protection hair products can – but just leaves hair swingy and strong.
5. Kiehl's Damage Repairing & Rehydrating Leave-In Treatment: £19, johnlewis.com
Moisturise, strengthen, repair split ends and improve manageability, all in one shot. It's ultra-concentrated so a little goes a long way, particularly on fine hair – although you'll need more if you have very thick or curly hair.
6. After-Sun Hair Masque: £22.50, aveda.co.uk
Gentle and nasties-frees, natural beauty junkies should opt for this post-summer hair repair masque packed with anti-oxidants to protect against free-radical damage and repairing oils to moisturise sun-parched locks. It's very nourishing so would suit thick, curly, unruly hair that needs an extra boost, rather than fine hair.
7. Umberto Giannini Instant Beauty Leave-In Conditioner: £6, boots.com
Give thirsty, lifeless locks a boost with this inexpensive but ultra effective spray-in, leave-in conditioner. It leaves even the dullest hair super-shiny. I used it for a couple of weeks and it left my hair feeling stronger and less brittle.
8. After Sun Hair Repair Serum: £6.40, kikocosmetics.com
Another great value but very effective post-beach hair treat, this adds moisture to the porous part of the hair shaft that is prone to damage from sun, sea salt, wind or chlorine. It's particularly great if your hair can look a little lank and greasy with serums as it's so lightweight even fine hair isn't left looking greasy - and it smells really pretty too.
9. Hairdresser's Invisible Oil Heat/UV Protective Primer: £20.50, bumbleandbumble.co.uk
A blend of six light oils that work their magic de-tangling, de-frizzing and taming out of control summer locks. It also protects against breakage, UV damage and heat-styling. It's a little heavy on fine hair, but it worked wonders on our curly and thick-haired testers.
10. L'Oreal Professionnel Expert Color Corrector Blondes: £17.99, amazon.co.uk
If all else fails and your expensive highlights have still turned brassy with the chlorine, salt, sand and sun, L'Oreal have come up with a quick and easy repair service to neutralise those yellow tones. Smooth this colour-correcting cream onto washed and towel-dried hair, leave for 5-10 minutes and rinse out to banish brassy locks for good. It brings the sparkle back into coloured blonde and leaves it looking salon-fresh.
