Canelo vs Charlo LIVE: Result as Alvarez retains undisputed titles

Saul “Canelo” Alvarez dominated Jermell Charlo on Saturday night, dropping the American en route to a one-sided points win in their undisputed vs undisputed fight.
Canelo entered the T-Mobile Arena as undisputed super-middleweight champion, and he left Las Vegas with that status intact after defeating Charlo, the undisputed super-welterweight champion. Canelo won a unanimous decision (119-108, 118-109, 118-109) with the highlight coming in Round 7, as the Mexican dropped Charlo to a knee after landing a hard overhand right.
Canelo, 33, marched down Charlo, also 33, for almost the entirety of the fight – the first to pit two undisputed male champions against each other in the four-belt era – and was unaffected by his challenger’s brighter moments.
Canelo, with his victory, became the first champion to retain their undisputed titles three times.

Canelo vs Charlo LIVE: Round 11
Canelo corners Charlo and just about lands an overhand right. An “oooooo” rings around the arena as Canelo misses with a wild left hook! Good head movement from Charlo to roll under it.
Charlo with a left hook to the body. Canelo comes back with a pair of hooks. And again.
Charlo misses with a big overhand right attempt. Now he just misses with a lancing right cross.
A chopping right hand is on point for Canelo, and it almost looked like Charlo’s legs buckled slightly there...

Charlo’s corner, including coach Derrick James, insists that Canelo is tired. “Get after him!”
Canelo has definitely slowed down a little after throwing so much heavy output in the first half of the fight.

“You’ve got to go all out,” James tells Charlo after the round ends. “You’re losing the fight, so what do you wanna do? Go and stop him, he’s tired now!”
Canelo vs Charlo LIVE: Round 9
There’s a delay to the start of this round, as a bit of water is wiped away in one of the corners.
Charlo unloads a few jabs and a left hook, though Canelo blocks the worst of those shots. The Mexican misses with a left hook of his own upstairs, but he lands one to the body a few moments later.

Charlo jabs up top then launches a hook to the body. Good work. Canelo fires back, however, with hooks off both wings.

Charlo, despite that knockdown in Round 7, is able to conjure some decent work in this frame.
Even so, Canelo remains on the front foot, refusing to let up on his challenger.
Canelo gets back to his body attacks, but he knows the overhand right can work for him now.

Charlo misses after loading up big on a right hook. He follows up with a decent combination, however. This is better from the challenger.
OH! Just as I say that, he’s tagged by a brutal overhand right and buckles! He seems okay, but then takes a knee a moment later!
That’s just the second time in his career that he’s been down! He’s back up and looking to hold Canelo! Still plenty of time in this round...
Big left hook from Charlo, and another! Still Canelo marches him down like a Terminator. Again the crowd chants Canelo’s name.

Canelo vs Charlo LIVE: Round 6
In that last round, Charlo landed the most punches that he’s managed in any frame so far tonight (9) but was still outlanded by Canelo (14).
Canelo comes forward and careens a right hook into the body of his challenger. Slick head movement by Charlo to roll under a hook attempt. Now the American lands a long left hand to the head!
Canelo retaliates with a couple of overhand rights. Even when they’re blocked, they have an effect.
“Ca-nel-o” is the chant in the T-Mobile Arena. Alvarez blocks a right hand then eats a grazing left from Charlo.
Canelo ends the round in strong fashion, landing a combination with Charlo against the ropes.

“Don’t get overconfident, we’re doing well,” Canelo is told by his coach.
Lovely lead left hook from Canelo, after a bit of phone-booth boxing. Charlo times a right hook well, though! Great shot.
Charlo uses the left uppercut again, but he’s beaten up to the body a little more. Clean jab by Canelo upstairs.

Canelo comes forward and attacks the body, but Charlo fires back with a couple of clean hooks upstairs!
Canelo with another good left hook, though. Charlo with a flurry of jabs to briefly get Canelo off him.

Canelo vs Charlo LIVE: Round 3
Canelo jabs to the head then spears a right cross to the body. Now a mean right hook to the mid-section. You could really hear that one.
Charlo sticks behind his jab and again looks for that left hook. He’s also trying to hold Canelo as much as possible when the Mexican gets close.
Good head movement from Canelo to slip off the centre line then land a hard right hand. Charlo with a well-timed jab now.

Canelo goes back to the body. He is FIRMLY in control so far.
